10 Size-Inclusive Fashion Labels to Discover

In 2019, I compiled a list of my preferred plus-size and size-inclusive brands to shop from. Fast forward six years, and unfortunately, many of those brands have either gone under or reduced their plus-size selections. The fashion landscape (indeed, the world) has experienced substantial shifts, including a general decline in enthusiasm for ideas like body positivity and size inclusion. Nevertheless, some brands have persevered — and, I must admit, have become even better in the past few years. While inclusive fashion remains a niche area, it is flourishing. Here are 10 of my top brands that are excelling at the moment…

Universal Standard
Size US 00-40
I’ve long respected Universal Standard, a brand that sets a high standard for inclusivity and quality. However, in its early stages, the styles were somewhat austere for my taste. In the years that followed, WOW, has it really blossomed. Universal Standard now offers a more extensive variety of styles (with GORGEOUS colors), while upholding its superior quality. It’s sophisticated yet not stuffy, which, as any plus-size shopper can attest, is hard to find beyond a size 14. I’m completely infatuated with this mustard wrap coat, and I adore the bell-sleeve/boat-neck blend of this striped top.

Thigh Society
Size US 2-34
I never realized how comfy I could feel in a dress until I got my first pair of Thigh Society shorts to wear underneath. They resemble shapewear, but don’t be misled — these anti-chafe shorts prioritize comfort, with no squeezing. They are robust and surprisingly breathable, to the point that I sometimes forget I have them on. I wore them on my wedding day and danced for six hours in complete comfort beneath ten layers of tulle.

Land’s End
Size US 00-26
Yep, that’s right, Land’s End — remember that catalog that was always on the mail table when you were young? I sort of forgot Land’s End existed around 1998, but when I rediscovered it a few years back — in a desperate search for a winter parka in my size — I was amazed to find out that Land’s End has become GREAT. It’s one of the few brands that creates solid, weather-resistant outerwear in plus sizes, but don’t ignore their indoor wear. These wide-leg corduroys? This green sweater tee? Alright, Land’s End! I’ll rejoin the mailing list!

Ace & Jig
Size XXS-4X
Whenever I see someone in an amazing print and ask where it’s from, the answer is invariably Ace & Jig. No one crafts prints quite like they do — cheerful, artistic, and stylish, crafted from Fair Trade Certified fabrics. Just gazing at this dress makes me want to dance at a backyard celebration. I pondered for months about purchasing a jumpsuit — should I truly spend $240 on overalls? — but eventually decided to buy it during a sale. That was three years ago, and it’s still among the most frequently worn, most treasured pieces in my wardrobe. The price is not low, but I find the cost-per-wear to be fantastic.

Wray
XXS-6XL
Wray is another stellar brand challenging the notion that plus-size clothing must be either dull and boxy OR asymmetric and festooned with bows at the back (why always at the back??). Their collections brim with fantastic pieces featuring vintage charm — fun, but not overly flashy, if you catch my drift. I’m smitten with this deep-berry dress, and these checked pants have completely transformed my lifelong disdain for checks. Another thing I love about Wray is that they re-sell their secondhand items and allow customers to list their own previous purchases. I’ve never resold on their site, but I’m always on the lookout for retired designs I missed the first time.

Big Bud Press
Size XP-7XL
Big Bud Press is renowned for their jumpsuits, and for good reason. They are true timeless pieces in that the designs are classic and the materials are exceptionally durable. But can we discuss the rest of their offerings? The work jackets! The carpenter overalls and tees in every rainbow hue!

Old Navy
Perhaps an obvious pick, but credit should be given where it’s due. Old Navy fulfills requirements that almost no other brand meets: They produce all womenswear in the company’s entire size range, and they photograph items on various models, permitting shoppers to choose a model size while looking online. I find this feature so beneficial that it’s one of the reasons I keep returning to Old Navy (hint, hint, other brands!). It’s pretty amazing to be able to click a button and instantly see a page full of bodies that resemble my own. I’m completely loyal to Old Navy’s button downs and high-waisted flare jeans. And I spent the entire summer in this swim romper, which was so adorable I’m probably going to buy another for next year right now.

Peridot Robes
Size 14-40
Do you have any idea how challenging it is to find even a slightly plus-size robe? I get oddly disappointed about this. True, a robe isn’t as critical as, say, underwear or a winter coat. But a cozy, pretty, loungewear robe is the type of luxury you don’t appreciate until you realize it’s completely out of reach. I was ECSTATIC to find Peridot Robes, a brand dedicated to addressing this need (and creating more delightful loungewear, too!). And how sumptuous are the fabrics?! I’m currently daydreaming about lounging in this luscious tie-dye creation.

Rachel Antonoff
Size 0-26
Rachel Antonoff’s creations are just the cutest, yet never too cutesy that I’d feel childish sporting them. (This rainbow cookie sweater is at the top of my Christmas wishlist, in case anyone’s curious!) I also admire the brand’s beautiful, playful lookbooks, and the fact that they usually showcase a variety of ages and genders modeling the clothing. I do wish they included more plus models — especially those at the larger end of the scale. However, I’m optimistic that a brand so ready to defy industry norms in other aspects can be nudged in a positive direction. So, let’s give that nudge.

Girlfriend Collective
XXS-6XL
Girlfriend Collective will always hold a special place in my affections as one of the few activewear brands that stocked plus sizes right from the beginning. I hugely applaud them for making other brands aware that many plus-size individuals indeed enjoy exercising and would LOVE to do it in something other than an oversized T-shirt. I never had an actual workout set until Girlfriend came onto the scene, let alone a selection of styles and colors to choose from. I particularly like their cropped workout bras, and I’ve been eyeing this ballet-inspired long-sleeve bodysuit for months.

So, who else is excelling these days? Any other inclusive (or plus!) brands I ought to explore?

P.S. Jordan Sondler’s week of outfits (featuring more fabulous inclusive brands!), and what’s the ‘hero piece’ in your wardrobe?
