Tartan Plaid Bedroom Decor Inspiration – Just a Girl Blog

Tartan Plaid Bedroom Decor Inspiration - Just a Girl Blog

Maybe the only thing I adore more than plaid is tartan plaid. There’s just something irresistible about it in classic Christmas hues that makes me swoon during the festive season. Swooning much like a girl at a Harry Styles concert. Or like a girl gazing at a box of doughnuts—both of which I’ve experienced.

This week, I’m collaborating with some remarkably talented blogging friends to showcase our holiday spaces. Don’t believe it? Look at this fabulous lineup! If you’re dropping by from Shand at Quarters One, a warm welcome! I’m thrilled to have you here!

Tartan Plaid Bedroom

I don’t do a lot of decorating in our bedrooms now that my children are older (aka: they’ve lost interest), so it was the perfect time to refresh my son’s room/guest room. Something else I rarely do? Use red in my decor! THIS was quite an enjoyable project.

I’ve come to realize that while I cherish decorating, I’m not a huge fan of the prop styling style that so often accompanies modern blogging. I committed myself to utilize what I own and keep it genuine. Does that resonate?

I didn’t adjust the pillows AT ALL until my dog made a full-body leap into them right in the middle of the shoot. He was swiftly removed and banned from the room while I removed dog hair from the navy throw. Lord help me.

White tartan pillows

Speaking of pillows! Va-va-voom!! Can we agree? They steal the spotlight. What’s even better is that I discovered the tartan pillows on Amazon, and they were such a steal! I thought I saved a ton! But then I ended up ordering more because they were just that reasonably priced. So I didn’t save as much! Whoops.

Red tartan pillows

I truly adore the look of a daybed adorned with numerous slightly messy pillows. There’s something about it that beckons, “Come rest here. Forget about work. It’s all good. Seriously.” It’s a very inviting daybed.

Want a little honest truth (oxymoron alert, Chris)? When my son departed for Europe, I stripped his room and removed the carpet. I haven’t replaced it yet. The picture below reveals the subfloor beneath the bed! I believe it’s time bloggers start showcasing the not-so-glamorous realities, right? Just me? 🙂

Anyway. It is what it is. But it does make me laugh (and weep) at how misleading photos can be.

I realize it’s a plethora of images, but this really is one of my top favorites. Tartan plaid holds my heart eternally. And so does Harry Styles. And Harry Styles IN tartan plaid.

**Tartan Plaid Bedroom Design Inspirations: A Warm and Enduring Aesthetic**

Welcome to *Just a Girl Blog*! Today, we’re exploring a classic yet adaptable design trend that has remained timeless: **tartan plaid**. Whether you’re looking for a cozy, rustic atmosphere or a more classy, preppy feel, tartan plaid can be the ideal touch for your bedroom. This emblematic pattern, known for its rich heritage and distinctive lines, infuses warmth, texture, and character into any area. Let’s delve into some imaginative and stylish tartan plaid bedroom design inspirations to help transform your space into a comforting haven.

### 1. **Traditional Red Tartan for a Rustic Vibe**
When you envision tartan plaid, the classic red and black pattern often springs to mind. This time-honored color combo is perfect for crafting a warm, rustic environment reminiscent of a snug cabin in the woods. To weave this look into your bedroom, think about incorporating red tartan bedding as the central attraction. Combine it with wooden furnishings, like a reclaimed wood bed frame or nightstands, to elevate the rustic appearance. Include some faux fur throws, leather details, and vintage decor to complete the ensemble.

**Tip:** To prevent an overwhelming effect, balance the vibrancy of the red tartan with neutral walls and minimal accessories. A cream or beige backdrop will permit the plaid to shine without becoming too chaotic.

### 2. **Navy and Green Tartan for a Chic Feel**
If your goal is to achieve a more refined and elegant aesthetic, consider opting for navy and green tartan plaid. These deeper, cooler shades convey sophistication and can seamlessly integrate into a preppy or classic bedroom design. Choose a tartan duvet cover or decorative pillows in this palette, and complement them with crisp white linens for a sleek, well-groomed appearance.

For furniture, dark wood or neutral-toned upholstered pieces pair nicely with navy and green tartan. Introduce brass or gold elements, such as lamps or picture frames, to enhance the overall design. This mix of colors and textures creates a timeless, upscale ambiance suitable for a master bedroom or guest room.

### 3. **Layering Plaid Patterns for a Comfy Look**
One of the best methods to craft a cozy, welcoming bedroom is by layering various patterns and textures. Don’t shy away from mixing and matching different tartan plaids in complementary hues. For instance, you could employ a large-scale plaid for bedding while using a smaller, subtler plaid for throw pillows or curtains. The secret to making this approach work is to adhere to a unified color scheme, like shades of gray, blue, or earth tones.

To deepen the warmth and richness, incorporate additional textures such as chunky knit blankets, woolen throws, or velvet cushions. This layered technique will help your bedroom feel like a snug retreat, ideal for curling up with a captivating book or enjoying a lazy weekend morning.

### 4. **Plaid Feature Wall for a Striking Impact**
For those feeling bold, why not create a dramatic effect with a tartan plaid accent wall? This can be accomplished with wallpaper or even painted stencils for a more DIY vibe. A plaid accent wall instantly injects character and visual interest into the room, becoming the centerpiece of the area.

For a more subdued effect, prefer a muted or monochromatic plaid pattern in neutral shades such as gray, beige, or soft blues. If you’re eager to make a bolder statement, choose a vibrant, contrasting plaid in reds, greens, or navy. Keep the rest of the room’s decor uncomplicated to avoid clashing with the striking wall.

**Tip:** If a complete accent wall seems too overwhelming, contemplate using plaid wallpaper solely on the headboard area or behind a reading nook for a smaller yet impactful design detail.

### 5. **Plaid Curtains and Upholstery for Timeless Elegance**
If you appreciate the look of tartan plaid but lean towards a more subtle style, think about incorporating plaid through curtains, upholstery, or smaller decorative accessories. Tartan curtains can bring elegance and warmth to the room without dominating the space. Select a pattern that complements your existing decor, whether it’s a soft neutral plaid or a bolder, colorful option.

You can also introduce plaid through upholstered furniture, like a cozy armchair or ottoman. This is an excellent way to integrate pattern without fully committing to a complete plaid bedding set or accent wall. Pair the plaid upholstery with solid-colored cushions or throws to maintain balance and cohesiveness.

### 6. **Contemporary Minimalist Plaid**
For those who favor a more modern and minimalistic design, tartan plaid can still be incorporated in a refined, understated manner. Choose a monochromatic plaid pattern in grays, blacks, or whites. This neutral color palette keeps the design streamlined and contemporary while still adding visual intrigue through the geometric nature of the plaid.
