I discovered a box of candles at At Home. Candles ranging from 10-12 inches will suffice. To insert the candles into the bottles, hold a lighter to the base of the candle to warm it. After a few seconds, push it into the bottle while gently twisting. This allows the candle to slide in and become straightened.
This is where the challenges arise. Today’s taper candles are designed so they don’t drip everywhere. Kudos to modern candle makers. Thank you for improving things, which ironically complicates them. 🙁
There are several strategies to encourage the wax to flow down the sides. Essentially, you need to create a route for the wax to escape. After some experimenting, I found that lighting another candle to create the channel while also using wax from the candle I held produced the best results.
Don’t fret if that was unclear. You essentially need to assist the candles to allow the wax to drip. Using a lighter or a second candle works effectively. Melt it to your liking, and you’re all set!
