I’ll be honest. I had a lack of knowledge about Berlin, Germany. I suppose I merely envisioned the Cold War and assumed it wouldn’t be a place I’d appreciate. How wrong I was! So incorrect that I genuinely wish we could’ve extended our stay there.
I adore when I discover a location that is not only stunning but also serves up a history lesson I didn’t know I was missing. Our visit lasted just one day, and it was sheer bliss. The weather was perfect, allowing us to roam through the city and uncover all its offerings.
My husband and I experienced countless “wow!” moments. We participated in a tour to observe the stark contrast between West and East Berlin—even after all this time.
The ghost line of the Berlin Wall extends throughout the city. We were mesmerized as we moved freely from one side to the other, contemplating how many lives had been lost seeking that same freedom years prior.
We also visited the site of the book burning at Bebelplatz. The memorial there is an underground library. It was incredibly striking to witness this.
The bear has become a representation of Berlin, and we enjoyed spotting the various versions of him scattered around the city.
This Holocaust Memorial left a profound impact on me. Once again, we wandered about on our own, taking in the atmosphere.
I had a major fan moment when we discovered that the Alte Nationalgalerie was hosting an Impressionist art exhibition. It’s my favorite style, and I couldn’t believe it was on display during our visit!
Need an example? Here I am having my fan moment. It was incredible to see their brush strokes! Their signatures! Ugh. Love you, Claude.
There’s SO MUCH more I could reveal about Berlin, but know that I initially wasn’t enthusiastic about the trip…and then it completely changed my outlook. It was both stunning AND steeped in history. I wholeheartedly recommend it!
