Their plan was to inundate the media and disorient the public, creating a scenario where we’d become so confused that we wouldn’t know how to proceed and would simply…stop.
“If you inundate the media — if you provide it with too many focal points at once, if you constantly shift from one issue to another — no unified opposition can materialize,” Ezra Klein explained on his podcast last Sunday.
However, Klein insists we should not trust Trump’s claims. Trump generates outrageous and alarming statements, but despite his wishes, he cannot alter the Constitution, and many of his initiatives are being halted before they can be implemented. “Within days, a judge placed a hold on the birthright citizenship order,” Klein writes. “A judge blocked the spending freeze even before it was due to take effect, and shortly thereafter, the Trump administration rescinded the order partly to avoid a court confrontation.”
This doesn’t imply that the situation isn’t dire — it is. I don’t aim to downplay the devastation. Individuals are living in significant fear, and many are facing harm, including transgender individuals, immigrants, federal employees, and so on. Even the threats Trump issues and the rhetoric he employs endanger people by fostering racism, sexism, and “us vs. them” mentalities.
