At Cup of Jo, we truly believe that when it comes to infants, “fed is best.” If breastfeeding, formula, or a blend of both suits you and your little one, go for it! (In my case, I used a combination.) So we were very interested when our partnerships director in Seattle, Maureen, shared her thoughts on Bobbie, an organic baby formula, and why it’s the ideal choice for her family…
Joanna: How did you conclude that formula was the right option for your family?
Maureen: “Our daughter, Willa, was two years old when our son, Conrad, arrived. When he was just a few weeks old, I was pumping on the couch while Willa was running around, asking me to play with her. I told her, ‘I can’t, sweetheart, I need to pump.’ I disliked having to repeatedly decline spending time with her, especially as she was adjusting to the significant change of having a new brother. What I really needed were two free hands for both kids; instead, I was tethered to the breast pump. Suddenly, the flexibility that formula could bring back to my family became evident.”
What led you to pick a formula?
“I sought recommendations from friends, and several suggested Bobbie’s Original Formula. One friend loved how gentle it was on her baby’s digestion, and the subscription service saved her from last-minute grocery store runs. I also felt reassured by Bobbie’s comparison chart, showing the ingredients in all their formulas — Organic Original, Organic Gentle, Whole Milk, and the new Organic Whole Milk — as well as how they compare to other brands. I opted for their Organic Original Formula, and Conrad embraced it immediately.”
What did you appreciate about their specific formulas?
“Firstly, I adore Bobbie’s story about two moms wanting to establish an organic formula that mirrors breastmilk, along with a company that supports parents’ feeding journeys without judgment. What they created is a variety of nutrient-rich formulas — all 100% lactose-free and devoid of hormones, corn syrup, soy, palm oil, or other common allergens. Additionally, their formula includes iron and vitamin D, which means I don’t need to provide separate supplements for my son.”
I’m a fan of a company run by moms!
“It’s incredible how dedicated they are to their customers. My friends used Bobbie formula during the 2022 formula shortage, and the sight of empty shelves was quite alarming. However, the Bobbie team reached out to all their subscription customers assuring them, ‘We’ve got you covered. You won’t face a formula shortage.’ And they never did.”
Parenting can be very emotional. How did you feel about transitioning from breastfeeding to formula feeding?
“Some moms feel a bond with their babies through breastfeeding, but that wasn’t my experience. Being able to STOP spending time pumping, cleaning pump parts, and organizing my day around feeding schedules was liberating and beneficial for my mental health. I quickly felt more like myself, which allowed me to be more present with my family.”
Would you recommend Bobbie to your friends?
“Absolutely! I am a firm believer in their Organic Original Formula, but I’ve also heard wonderful things about their new Organic Whole Milk Formula. It’s their most similar recipe to breastmilk and the only USDA Organic whole milk infant formula produced in the U.S. A friend of mine recently had a C-section at 35 weeks. She texted me for formula suggestions since her milk hadn’t come in, and I immediately recommended this one. I would have used it with Conrad had it been available when we began on formula.”
A huge thank you, Maureen (and Conrad)! If you’re interested, here’s Bobbie’s comparison chart. Sending love to all the amazing parents out there. Whatever you deem best for your family, we support you! As a Cup of Jo reader once expressed, “Bless you, new moms. If you’re trying, you’re doing brilliantly.” xoxo
