Bedroom Decoration Featuring Tartan Plaid Design

Maybe the only thing I appreciate more than plaid is tartan plaid. There’s just something special about it in traditional Christmas hues that makes me feel all giddy during the holiday season. Giddy like a girl at a Harry Styles concert. Or a girl eyeing a box of doughnuts–both of which I have experienced.

I am teaming up with some extremely talented blogging friends to showcase some of our festive spaces this week. Don’t believe it? Check out this impressive lineup! If you’re stopping by from Shand at Quarters One, we’re thrilled to have you here!

Tartan Plaid Bedroom

I don’t do much decorating in our bedrooms now that my kids are older (read: they have lost interest), so it was an excellent chance to refresh my son’s room/guest room. Another thing I rarely do? Use red for decor! THIS was an exciting project.

I’ve come to understand that I adore decorating, but I’m not particularly fond of the prop styling that accompanies modern blogging. I promised myself to utilize items I already own and keep it from feeling too artificial. Does that resonate?

I didn’t mess with the pillows AT ALL until my dog dove right into them during the shoot. He was promptly removed and kept out of the room while I pulled dog fur out of the navy blanket. Oh dear.

White tartan pillows

On the subject of pillows! Va-va-voom!! Am I right? They steal the spotlight. What’s even better is I found the tartan pillows on Amazon, and they were quite affordable! I saved a lot of cash! But then I bought more since they were such a great price. So I didn’t save as much! Oops.

Red tartan pillows

I absolutely adore the appearance of a daybed adorned with a plethora of slightly disheveled pillows. It communicates, “Come rest here. Avoid work. Everything will be okay. I’m not kidding.” It’s a very inviting daybed.

Just to be transparent (oxymoron alert, Chris)? When my son departed for Europe, I completely cleared out his room and tore up the carpet. I haven’t replaced it yet. The image below will showcase the subfloor beneath the bed! I believe it’s time bloggers start revealing the not-so-pretty realities, right? Just me? 🙂

Whatever. It is what it is. But it does make me laugh (and cry) at how misleading pictures can be.

I realize it’s numerous photos, but it’s genuinely one of my favorites. Tartan plaid holds my heart forever. So does Harry Styles. And Harry Styles IN tartan plaid.

**Title: Revitalize Your Bedroom with a Tartan Plaid Theme**

Tartan plaid, with its rich heritage and enduring charm, is a flexible pattern that can infuse warmth and personality into any bedroom. Whether you’re seeking to craft a snug haven or an elegant retreat, incorporating tartan plaid into your bedroom decor can create a distinctive and welcoming ambiance. Here’s how you can revamp your bedroom with a tartan plaid theme.

**1. Selecting the Perfect Tartan Plaid**

The initial step in decorating with tartan plaid is to pick the ideal pattern and color scheme. Tartan comes in various colors and designs, each with its own historical background. Think about the ambiance you wish to create: deep reds and greens for a classic Scottish vibe, or gentler blues and grays for a more contemporary appeal. Ensure the colors harmonize with your current furniture and wall hues.

**2. Bedding and Textiles**

Start by weaving tartan plaid into your bedding. A plaid duvet cover or comforter can act as the centerpiece of the room. Pair it with solid-colored sheets and pillowcases to balance the design. Consider adding tartan throw pillows or a blanket at the foot of the bed for added texture and warmth.

**3. Curtains and Rugs**

Tartan plaid curtains can introduce a bold touch to your bedroom. Opt for a fabric that matches or complements your bedding. If full-length curtains seem too overwhelming, consider utilizing tartan valances or tiebacks for a more understated effect. A tartan plaid rug can also serve as a grounding element, offering a cozy feel underfoot and tying the decor together.

**4. Accent Pieces**

Integrate tartan plaid in smaller amounts through accent pieces. A tartan-upholstered chair or ottoman can infuse a splash of pattern without crowding the space. Picture frames, lampshades, or even a tartan-covered headboard can function as stylish touches.

**5. Wall Decor**

If you’re feeling bold, think about a tartan plaid accent wall. This can be achieved with wallpaper or even a large-scale plaid mural. For a less permanent solution, hang tartan fabric or artwork featuring the pattern. This adds visual intrigue and can be easily altered if you want to refresh the room’s aesthetic.

**6. Seasonal Changes**

Tartan plaid is especially loved in fall and winter due to its warm and cozy associations. Consider swapping out lighter summer decor with tartan accents as the seasons shift. This can be as uncomplicated as adding a tartan throw or changing out pillow covers.

**7. Mixing Patterns**

Don’t hesitate to combine tartan plaid with other patterns. Stripes, florals, or even different plaids can complement each other beautifully if they share a harmonious color palette. The secret is to balance the patterns by varying their scale and ensuring one does not dominate the other.

**Conclusion**

Decorating your bedroom with a tartan plaid theme can result in a space that is both stylish and inviting. By thoughtfully choosing your tartan patterns and integrating them into your decor, you can achieve a unified look that mirrors your personal taste. Whether you opt for a full tartan transformation or just add a few plaid touches, your bedroom is bound to become a warm and welcoming sanctuary.
