Possibly the only thing I enjoy more than plaid is tartan plaid. There’s a charm in its traditional Christmas hues that makes me swoon over it during the festive season. Swooning like a girl at a Harry Styles concert. Or a girl eyeing a box of doughnuts–both experiences I have had.
This week, I am teaming up with some incredibly talented blogging friends to showcase our holiday rooms. Don’t believe me? Have a look at this lineup! If you’re visiting from Shand at Quarters One, welcome! It’s great to have you here!
Tartan Plaid Bedroom
These days, I don’t decorate much in our bedrooms since my kids have grown up (they simply don’t care anymore), making it an excellent chance to refresh my son’s room/guestroom. Another thing I rarely do? Use red in my decor! THIS was an enjoyable endeavor.
I’ve come to realize that while I enjoy decorating, I’m not particularly fond of the prop styling that often accompanies modern blogging. I made a vow to use what I already own and to keep it feeling genuine. Does that resonate?
I didn’t adjust the pillows AT ALL until my dog decided to leap into them in the midst of the photo shoot. He was promptly removed and banned from the room while I removed dog hair from the navy blanket. Oh dear.
Regarding pillows! Wow!! Am I correct? They are the highlights of the display. The best part is that I found the tartan pillows on Amazon, and they were incredibly affordable! I saved a significant amount of money! But then I ordered more because of their low prices. So I didn’t save as much as I thought! Oops.
I absolutely adore the aesthetic of a daybed adorned with a multitude of somewhat disheveled pillows. It conveys a message: “Come lie down. Skip any chores. Everything will be alright. I mean it.” It’s a rather inviting daybed.
Want to know a little secret (oxymoron alert, Chris)? When my son departed for Europe, I emptied his room and tore out the carpet. I haven’t replaced it yet. The image below reveals the subfloor beneath the bed! I believe it’s about time bloggers began revealing the unglamorous realities, right? Just me? 🙂
Whatever. It is what it is. But it does bring a smile (and a few tears) to realize how misleading photographs can be.
I realize it’s a multitude of pictures, but this is genuinely one of my favorites. Tartan plaid will always have my heart. And so does Harry Styles. Especially Harry Styles IN tartan plaid.

**Title: Elevate Your Bedroom with a Classic Tartan Plaid Theme**
Tartan plaid, with its rich background and adaptable design, serves as an everlasting choice for bedroom decor. This iconic pattern, initially linked to Scottish heritage, has transitioned into a favored design feature that infuses warmth, texture, and character into any room. Whether your goal is a rustic, classic, or contemporary style, integrating tartan plaid into your bedroom decor can establish a cozy and welcoming vibe. Here’s how you can enhance your bedroom with a tartan plaid concept.
**1. Selecting the Perfect Tartan Plaid:**
The first step towards crafting a tartan plaid-themed bedroom is to choose the right design. Tartan comes in various color pairings and patterns, each bringing its unique charm. Take into account the overall color palette of your bedroom and opt for a tartan that harmonizes with it. For a traditional appearance, select classic red and green tartan. If a more modern look is desired, consider neutral hues like grey, black, or navy.
**2. Bedding and Fabrics:**
The bed is the centerpiece of any bedroom, making it the ideal space to highlight your tartan plaid theme. Begin with a tartan plaid duvet cover or comforter as the focal point. Pair it with solid-colored sheets and pillowcases to create a balance with the pattern. Enhance with tartan plaid throw pillows and a snug blanket at the bed’s foot for extra texture and warmth.
**3. Draperies and Flooring:**
Incorporate tartan plaid into your window coverings and flooring to maintain a unified look. Tartan plaid curtains can bring a dash of elegance and privacy to your bedroom. Select a fabric that matches or complements your bedding. A tartan plaid area rug can anchor the space and offer a soft surface underfoot, elevating the room’s overall comfort.
**4. Accent Furniture and Decorative Items:**
Bring in tartan plaid through accent furniture and decor. Think about a tartan plaid upholstered chair or ottoman to introduce an element of sophistication. Decorative items like tartan plaid lampshades, picture frames, or wall decor can subtly strengthen the theme without overpowering the ambiance.
**5. Pattern and Texture Mixing:**
To avoid the tartan plaid from overshadowing the room, blend it with other patterns and textures. Combine tartan with solid shades, stripes, or floral designs to enrich visual interest. Include diverse materials such as wood, leather, or metal to create depth and contrast.
**6. Seasonal Adjustments:**
Tartan plaid is especially favored during the autumn and winter seasons due to its warm and cozy nature. However, it can easily be adapted for use throughout the year. In warmer seasons, select lighter tartan fabrics and brighter color combinations to keep the space feeling fresh and inviting.
**7. Personalization:**
Finally, customize your tartan plaid-themed bedroom with touches that reflect your personal taste. Include family heirlooms, vintage treasures, or travel mementos to make the area distinctly yours.
In summary, a tartan plaid theme can convert your bedroom into a stylish and inviting sanctuary. By thoughtfully selecting patterns, balancing colors, and integrating complementary textures, you can craft a space that is both timeless and welcoming. Whether you lean towards a traditional or modern style, tartan plaid provides endless opportunities for designing a bedroom that is as functional as it is beautiful.
