Reflections on 7 Spring Style Trends

“I’m eager to put away my winter garments,” wrote a CoJ reader named Hilleary. “What are the spring trends?” Some people may not be interested in trends — life is fleeting, so wear what you want! — but I personally enjoy the visual dialogue of seeing individuals sport their old bandanas again or give new life to loose jeans from their closet’s depths. If you’re also intrigued, here are seven spring trends to watch out for…

1. Bandanas. I had guests over recently, and no fewer than FIVE lovely women arrived with bandanas adorning their necks. How simple is that? (Side note: Are you interested in a bandana-tying tutorial, just for fun?)

2. Funnel necks. How stylish are the high collars on this cream jacket and denim coat? If budget wasn’t a concern, this Barbour piece is also stunning — and here’s a light blue option.

3. Baby blue. I wear this blue 100% cotton top allllll the time with jeans or shorts. It hangs nicely, looks great with rolled sleeves, and makes for an effortless travel outfit. I’m also into these baby blue and woven flats.

4. Polka dots. Do you wear polka dots? My friends’ opinions vary, but I believe they can appear quite sophisticated, especially when the dress itself feels more mature (e.g., long, silky, belted). Remember this scene in Pretty Woman?

5. Dark denim. Picture: so dark they’re nearly navy. This trouser cut is fantastic, and these beauties are currently 30% off.

6. Track pants. When Alison donned track pants during her house tour photos, we received a plethora of comments about them. Hers were from Adidas, but there are other exciting versions, like linen and polka dots.

7. Boat shoes. Last summer, my dad wore classic boat shoes while on a boat in Cornwall, England, and when I informed him he was on trend, he….didn’t care. But! They’re timeless, easy, and ideal for summer, so I felt pleased for both of us.

Thoughts? What are you donning these days? And if you want to stick to basics, there’s always the forever-cool stick-of-butter look. xoxo
