Weekly Wardrobe Guide by Laura Tully

Weekly Wardrobe Guide by Laura Tully

“In my opinion, a great outfit is one that requires minimal thought,” states Laura Tully, a personal wardrobe stylist residing in Boise, Idaho, alongside her husband and their three children. Her perspective — for both herself and her clients — is that your clothing should reflect your current life. “Style involves taking care of yourself during the season you’re experiencing,” she mentions, “rather than chasing the aspiration of becoming someone else eventually.” Here, Laura unveils five ensembles she donned over the course of a week…

Jacket: H&M. T-shirt: Leset. Jeans: Citizens of Humanity. Belt: Old Navy. Sneakers: Reebok. Cap: Clare V. Purse: Saint Laurent. Earrings: Gorjana.

“I’ve experimented with countless white T-shirts, and Leset is my clear favorite. They’re a tad cropped, but at 5’9, I can still throw my hands up without revealing my bra. What truly appeals to me is that they consistently withstand washing and remain bright white.”

“While accessories are universally loved, including by myself, dressing up is reminiscent of cooking, where occasionally, an extraordinary meal is comprised of merely five ingredients. This barn jacket is comparable to a prime piece of Parmigiano-Reggiano you preserve in the fridge and revisit repeatedly until it dwindles to a mere sliver.”

Blazer: Eaves. Jeans: Citizens of Humanity. Shoes: Golden Goose, comparable.

“I wear this attire to business meetings. The jeans offer exceptional comfort, which is paramount to me. I have a three-year-old daughter, a six-year-old son, and a twenty-year-old stepdaughter. My work occurs both within and outside the home, with some days of triumph and others where things could improve. Hence, I demand outfits that are low-maintenance, as there’s already plenty I manage.”

“Practicality governs my approach to makeup. I adhere to two lip hues: MAC lip pencil in Chicory for a rich nutmeg tone, and when desiring extra depth, I layer it with Ilia’s crayon in Gala, enhancing with a moisturizing, radiant gloss.”

Denim shirt: Madewell, comparable. Dress: Bardot, comparable.

“For date nights, this dress initially felt somewhat unconventional, considering I rarely wear prints. It has now become a staple! Plus, it includes pockets, a logical and appreciated feature for skirts and dresses.”

“My roots trace back to Jamaica. My father was a shoemaker, and my mother juggled jobs, including as a seamstress. Despite limited resources, my parents instilled in me the belief that, regardless of financial constraints, being deliberate in clothing choices is valuable, akin to the importance of mindful speech.”

Jacket: Anine Bing, similar. Shirt: Ralph Lauren. Jeans: Citizens of Humanity. Sneakers: Reebok. Purse: Saint Laurent. Earrings: Gorjana.

“I’m in jeans almost all the time, and I enjoy cuffing or creasing them to avoid monotony. The key lies in selecting denim variants with substantial weight. The higher the cotton content, the sharper the appearance.”

“For what I call ‘professional’ jeans, I visit the dry cleaner for a wet press, also known as cowboy press, essentially involving intense starching. Then, I bring them home, cuff, and weigh them down with a book for a day. Post this, they maintain a crisp, polished look for weeks.”

Top: H&M, comparable. Skirt: Rails. Sneakers: Converse.

“Cute sneakers are essentially my language of love. They offer comfort and manage to infuse a laid-back element into any outfit positively. When faced with an overly formal work outfit, incorporating stylish sneakers adds a welcoming, personal touch, encouraging others to relax.”

“Before parenthood, I envisioned myself as thoroughly organized. It’s a sentiment echoed by many mothers: the desire to feel composed. However, attributing this to an ideal Pinterest lifestyle isn’t beneficial. It often leads to feeling inadequate. My style philosophy revolves around, ‘What is occurring now? What’s necessary now?’”

Sincere thanks to you, Laura!
