Armani has recently revamped their iconic Luminous Silk Foundation ($69, Nordstrom and Sephora). As a devoted fan of the original formula, I must confess I was quite anxious about the changes and bought several backups just in case the new version turned out to be vastly different. After nearly a month of evaluation, I’m pleased to say that the new formulation is just as excellent as the original, and my shade, 6.5, remains unchanged.
Armani has introduced additional shades to the lineup and revised the formula to include niacinamide. The two formulations appear nearly identical on my skin. From my experience, there is a slight variation in coverage, with the new formulation being marginally thinner and a bit sheerer, but these differences are hardly noticeable. Coverage continues to offer the same medium, naturally radiant finish. I appreciate that it provides a glow without being overly emollient or dewy. It beautifully smooths the skin in a natural manner. The coverage remains light so that your skin can still breathe, and I have some dark spots (healing acne scars) that remain visible in the chin area. This can be corrected with concealer (I prefer Natasha Denona’s Hy-Glam Concealer for optimal coverage with a creamy consistency). I always set my makeup with powder, and lately, I’ve been enjoying the Chanel Poudre Universelle Libre Loose Powder in Shade 30 or Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder (I love this in various shades; the Rose Talc-Free Ultra Blur version is also excellent).
Most shades appear to be unchanged, but a few have been altered. They provide a helpful shade chart indicating which shades differ and the newly suggested match (Shades 1.5, 4.25, 4.75, 7.5, 7.75, and 8 are now different).
I truly love this foundation. It is very similar to the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation (I wear BD41), but the Armani has a lighter texture and finish. It also feels a bit less emollient compared to the Victoria Beckham Beauty Foundation Drops (I have Shades 7 and 8).
