Armani has recently reworked their iconic Luminous Silk Foundation ($69, Nordstrom and Sephora). As someone who has cherished the original, I must confess I was quite alarmed by the announcement and grabbed a few extra just in case the new version turned out to be vastly different. After almost a month of testing, I’m pleased to share that the new iteration is just as wonderful as the original, and my shade 6.5 continues to match perfectly.
Armani has introduced additional shades to the collection and modified the formula to incorporate niacinamide. On my skin, the two formulations are nearly indistinguishable. From my assessment, there’s a small variation in coverage, with the new formula feeling slightly thinner and sheerer, yet these differences are hardly noticeable. Some of you pointed out in my video that the new version appears to have a tad less pigmentation.
The coverage remains a medium, naturally luminous finish. I appreciate that it provides a glow without being overly emollient or dewy. It beautifully evens out the skin in a naturally pleasing manner. The coverage still looks natural, allowing some skin texture to show through, and I have a few dark spots (healing acne marks) that are still visible around my chin. Concealer can easily remedy this (I prefer Natasha Denona’s Hy-Glam Concealer for optimal coverage with a creamy formula). I always set my makeup with powder, and recently I’ve been fond of the Chanel Poudre Universelle Libre Loose Powder Shade 30 or Laura Mercier Translucent Loose (also love this in several shades; the Rose Talc-Free Ultra Blur Version is excellent too).
While most of the shades appear to remain the same, a few have changed. They’ve provided a helpful shade chart that indicates which shades have been altered along with the new recommended matches (Shades 1.5, 4.25, 4.75, 7.5, 7.75, and 8 are updated).
I genuinely enjoy it. It’s quite similar to the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation (I wear BD41), but the Armani feels lighter in texture and finish. Additionally, it seems slightly less emollient compared to the Victoria Beckham Beauty Foundation Drops (I have Shades 7 and 8).
