Maybe the only thing I adore more than plaid is tartan plaid. There’s just something about its classic Christmas hues that has me smitten during the festive season. Smitten like a girl at a Harry Styles gig. Or a girl eyeing a box of doughnuts–both of which I have experienced.
I’m collaborating with some incredibly talented blogging friends to showcase some of our holiday spaces this week. Don’t take my word for it? Check out this lineup! If you’re visiting from Shand at Quarters One, welcome! I’m thrilled to have you!
Tartan Plaid Bedroom
I don’t do much decorating in our bedrooms now that my children are older (read: they no longer care), so it was the ideal chance to freshen up my son’s room/guest room. Something else I hardly do? Use red in my decor! THIS was a delightful challenge.
I’ve realized that I love decorating, yet I’m not particularly fond of the prop styling that comes with contemporary blogging. I vowed to utilize items I already own and not make it too artificial. Does that resonate?
I didn’t adjust the pillows at ALL until my dog decided to dive into them during the shoot. He was promptly ushered out and kept out of the room while I picked dog hair from the navy blanket. Help me, please.
Speaking of pillows! Wowza!! Am I correct? They truly steal the show. Even more amazing is that I found the tartan pillows on Amazon, and they were incredibly affordable! I saved so much cash! But then I bought more because they were so reasonably priced. So I didn’t save as much as I thought! Oops.
I simply adore the appearance of a daybed adorned with a multitude of slightly disheveled pillows. Something about it conveys, “Come relax here. No need to work. It’ll be okay. Seriously.” It’s a very inviting daybed.
Want a bit of full honesty (is that contradictory, Chris)? When my son headed off to Europe, I cleared out his room and ripped up the carpet. I haven’t replaced it yet. The photo below shows the subfloor beneath the bed! I think it’s about time bloggers start revealing their unglamorous truths, right? Just me? 🙂
Whatever. It is what it is. But it does make me laugh (and cry) at how misleading images can be.
I know it’s a lot of pictures, but it’s genuinely one of my favorites. Tartan plaid holds my heart eternally. And so does Harry Styles. And Harry Styles IN tartan plaid.

**Title: Revitalize Your Bedroom with Classic Tartan Plaid Decor**
Tartan plaid, a timeless design rooted in Scottish tradition, has evolved beyond its conventional origins to become a flexible and chic choice for contemporary bedroom styling. This classic motif, marked by its interwoven horizontal and vertical lines in various hues, can impart warmth, texture, and a dash of elegance to any bedroom. Here’s how you can integrate tartan plaid into your bedroom styling to craft a cozy and welcoming environment.
**1. Bedding and Linens:**
The simplest way to incorporate tartan plaid into your bedroom is through your bed linens. Choose a tartan plaid duvet or comforter as the statement piece of your room. Complement it with solid-colored sheets and pillowcases to balance the striking pattern. For a layered aesthetic, add a tartan plaid throw blanket at the end of the bed and mix in accent pillows in coordinating colors.
**2. Curtains and Drapes:**
Tartan plaid curtains can make a powerful impact while providing an extra layer of privacy and insulation. Select a design that complements your bedding and overall color scheme. If a subtler approach is preferred, consider using tartan plaid tiebacks or valances instead of full-length curtains.
**3. Rugs and Carpets:**
A tartan plaid rug can anchor your bedroom design and provide a warm touch underfoot. Choose a rug that reflects the colors present in your bedding or curtains for a unified appearance. Whether you opt for a large area rug or a smaller accent rug, the design will contribute visual interest and warmth to your space.
**4. Furniture and Upholstery:**
Integrate tartan plaid into your bedroom furniture by selecting an upholstered headboard or an accent chair featuring the pattern. If reupholstering furniture isn’t feasible, consider tartan plaid slipcovers or cushions to achieve a similar vibe.
**5. Wall Decor:**
For a daring approach, think about tartan plaid wallpaper or a feature wall painted with a plaid design. If you prefer a more subdued look, hang framed pieces of tartan plaid fabric or artwork that includes the motif. This can provide depth and personality to your walls without overwhelming the area.
**6. Accessories and Accents:**
Small decorative items can also bring the allure of tartan plaid into your bedroom. Look for lampshades, picture frames, or decorative boxes featuring plaid patterns. Even a tartan plaid clock or a collection of plaid-covered books can elevate the theme.
**7. Seasonal Decor:**
Tartan plaid is especially favored during the fall and winter seasons, as its warm shades and cozy essence align beautifully with the seasonal vibe. Swap out lighter summer decor for tartan plaid elements to create a snug and welcoming atmosphere during colder times.
**Conclusion:**
Incorporating tartan plaid into your bedroom decor is a classic means to infuse elegance and warmth into your space. Whether you decide to go all out with a full tartan bedding set or prefer subtle touches like rugs and decor, this adaptable pattern can easily tailor itself to any style. Embrace the warmth of tartan plaid and transform your bedroom into a cozy sanctuary that showcases your individual taste and flair.
