Bedroom Decoration with Tartan Plaid Motif

Bedroom Decoration with Tartan Plaid Motif

Maybe the only thing I prefer more than plaid is tartan plaid. There’s just something about it in traditional Christmas shades that has me enamored with it throughout the holiday season. Swooning like a girl at a Harry Styles concert. Or a girl eyeing a box of doughnuts—both of which I have experienced.

I am collaborating with some incredibly talented blogging friends to showcase our holiday spaces this week. Don’t take my word for it? Check out this awesome lineup! If you’ve hopped over here from Shand at Quarters One, I’m so glad to have you!

Tartan Plaid Bedroom

I don’t do much decorating in our bedrooms now that my kids are older (read: they don’t care as much), so this was the ideal chance to refresh my son’s room/guest room. Another thing I rarely do? Use red for decorating! THIS was a fun one.

I’ve come to realize that I enjoy decorating, but I’m not particularly keen on the prop styling that goes hand in hand with contemporary blogging. I promised myself to only use what I have and keep it from looking too staged. Does that resonate?

I didn’t arrange the pillows at all until my dog dove into them during the shoot. He was swiftly removed and barred from the room while I picked dog hair off the navy blanket. Good grief.

White tartan pillows

About those pillows! Va-va-voom!! Am I right? They steal the spotlight. Even better is that I sourced the tartan pillows on Amazon, and they were super affordable! I saved quite a bit! However, I ended up buying even more because they were such a good deal. So I didn’t really save much after all! Oops.

Red tartan pillows

I absolutely adore the vibe of a daybed adorned with a bunch of slightly messy pillows. Something about it conveys, “Come lounge here. Don’t worry about anything. It’s all good. I’m serious.” It’s a very inviting daybed.

I want to give you a bit of honesty (oxymoron alert, Chris)? When my son departed for Europe, I cleared out his room and removed the carpet. I haven’t replaced it yet. The image below shows the subfloor beneath the bed! I think it’s time for bloggers to reveal some of the harsh realities, right? Just me? 🙂

Anyway. It is what it is. But it does make me both chuckle (and cry) at how misleading photos can be.

I know there are a lot of pictures here, but it’s genuinely one of my favorites. Tartan plaid will hold my heart forever. And so will Harry Styles. Especially Harry Styles IN tartan plaid.

**Title: Revamp Your Bedroom with a Tartan Plaid Theme**

Tartan plaid, a design steeped in tradition and flexibility, presents a wonderful chance to infuse your bedroom with coziness, personality, and a hint of timeless sophistication. Originating in Scotland, tartan plaid features intersecting horizontal and vertical lines in various colors. Here’s how you can integrate this enduring motif into your bedroom decor.

**1. Selecting the Perfect Tartan Plaid**

The initial step in adorning with tartan plaid is picking the appropriate pattern and color combination. Tartan offers a variety of shades and styles, each carrying its unique historical meaning. Take into account your bedroom’s overall color scheme. For a harmonious appearance, choose a tartan pattern that enhances your current decor. Classic reds, greens, and blues provide a traditional aesthetic, while more contemporary takes may include softer tones like grays and pastels.

**2. Bedding and Fabrics**

The bed serves as the centerpiece of any bedroom, making it the ideal place to highlight your tartan theme. Choose a tartan plaid duvet cover or comforter as the focal point. Complement it with solid-colored sheets and pillowcases to prevent the space from feeling overcrowded. Incorporate tartan throw pillows or a blanket at the bed’s foot for an extra layer of texture and warmth.

**3. Curtains and Carpets**

Extend the tartan concept to your windows with plaid curtains. Select a fabric that pairs well with your bedding and allows natural light to come through. On the floor, a tartan area rug can unify the space, providing a snug underfoot experience. Ensure the rug’s colors connect with the rest of the decor to keep balance.

**4. Accent Pieces and Decor**

Integrate tartan plaid into your furniture and decorative items for understated hints of the theme. Consider a tartan-upholstered armchair or ottoman for a comfy reading spot. Tartan lampshades, picture frames, or even a headboard featuring the pattern can bring character without overwhelming the area.

**5. Walls and Art Pieces**

If you’re feeling daring, think about creating a feature wall using tartan wallpaper. This could serve as a bold backdrop for your bed or seating arrangement. For a less permanent choice, hang tartan-themed artwork or framed fabric samples. These can be effortlessly changed if you choose to update your decor later.

**6. Seasonal Refreshes**

Tartan plaid is especially favored during the autumn and winter seasons because of its warm and welcoming vibe. Consider refreshing your bedroom decor seasonally by switching out lighter textiles for tartan in the cooler months. This might involve heavier curtains, thicker blankets, and extra throw pillows.

**7. Achieving Balance**

While tartan plaid can infuse a lot of character into a room, it’s essential to balance it with solid colors and neutral shades to ensure the area doesn’t feel cluttered. Incorporate natural elements like wood and leather to complement the plaid and add warmth and texture.

**Conclusion**

Decorating your bedroom with a tartan plaid theme can result in a warm, inviting atmosphere that merges classic charm with contemporary flair. By thoughtfully selecting patterns, colors, and coordinating elements, you can transform your space into a timeless retreat that showcases your individual style. Whether you opt for a bold tartan overhaul or prefer subtle hints, tartan plaid offers limitless opportunities for crafting a stylish and cozy bedroom.
