As much as I adore plaid, I have an even fonder affection for tartan plaid. There’s something about its classic Christmas hues that makes me weak in the knees during the festive season. Weak in the same way one might be at a Harry Styles concert or when gazing at a box of doughnuts—experiences I can attest to personally.
This week, I’m collaborating with some exceptionally talented blogging friends to showcase our holiday-themed rooms. Don’t take my word for it—check out the impressive roster! If you’ve come here from Shand at Quarters One, a warm welcome to you! I’m thrilled to have you!
Tartan Plaid Bedroom
With my children now older (translation: they pay no attention), I don’t frequently decorate the bedrooms, making it the ideal time to refresh my son’s room/guestroom. Another thing I rarely do? Use red decor! THIS was a delightful change.
I’ve realized that although decorating is something I enjoy, the prop styling that comes with modern blogging doesn’t appeal to me. I committed to using what I already own and avoiding anything too artificial. Does that make sense?
I honestly didn’t fuss with the pillows at all until my dog decided to make a leap onto them during the photo shoot. He was promptly removed from the room as I pulled dog hair from the navy blanket. Oh, the struggles!
Speaking of pillows! Va-va-voom!! Am I right? They truly steal the show. To top it off, I found the tartan pillows on Amazon at such a low price! I saved a considerable amount! But of course, I ended up buying more because of their great value. So I didn’t save as much as I thought! Oops.
I just adore how a daybed adorned with plenty of somewhat disheveled pillows looks. It exudes the message, “Lie down here. Don’t worry about anything. Seriously.” It’s an inviting daybed.
A bit of full disclosure (isn’t it ironic, Chris)? When my son departed for Europe, I completely revamped his room and tore up the carpet. It hasn’t been replaced yet. The image below will reveal the subfloor under the bed! I think it’s high time we bloggers unveil the not-so-pretty truths, right? Just me? 🙂
Whatever. It is what it is. Yet, I can’t help but chuckle (and cry) at how misleading images can be.
I realize it’s a plethora of photos, but it’s genuinely one of my favorites. Tartan plaid has captured my heart forever. Just like Harry Styles. And Harry Styles IN tartan plaid.

**Inviting Bedroom Décor Featuring Tartan Plaid Details**
When it comes to creating a bedroom that radiates coziness, charm, and classic elegance, few designs can compete with the timeless allure of tartan plaid. While rooted in tradition, tartan plaid is adaptable enough to enhance contemporary styles, transforming any bedroom into a warm sanctuary. Whether you’re pursuing a rustic cabin atmosphere, a chic preppy aesthetic, or a nod to Scottish tradition, tartan plaid serves as a stylish and comfortable design choice. Here’s how to weave tartan plaid into your bedroom styling for a space that embodies comfort and individuality.

### **Reasons to Embrace Tartan Plaid**
Tartan plaid is a pattern steeped in heritage, originating in Scotland and often linked to familial clans. Its unique interwoven horizontal and vertical lines in diverse colors give it a bold yet flexible appeal in interior design. Tartan plaid infuses a room with warmth and texture, making it particularly fitting for bedrooms, where a sense of comfort is paramount.
Moreover, the pattern’s versatility adds to its widespread popularity. Whether your preference leans towards the classic red and green tartans, neutral palettes, or contemporary monochromatic styles, there exists a tartan plaid suitable for every design theme and color scheme.

### **Essential Features for a Cozy Bedroom with Tartan Plaid Details**
1. **Tartan Bedding**
The bed serves as the centerpiece of any bedroom, making it an ideal canvas for tartan plaid. A tartan duvet cover or comforter quickly establishes the mood of the room. Pair it with solid-hued sheets and pillowcases to create balance against the dynamic pattern. For an added layered effect, incorporate tartan throw pillows or a matching blanket at the bed’s foot.
2. **Plaid Curtains or Drapes**
Tartan plaid curtains can introduce a striking yet cozy element to your bedroom. Choose heavier materials like wool or flannel for a warm, wintertime ambiance, or select lighter fabrics for a breezier, more casual vibe. To maintain a sense of balance, keep the remainder of the room’s decor uncomplicated.
3. **Accent Furniture**
Introduce tartan plaid into your furnishings for a subtle yet striking design accent. An upholstered tartan chair or a bench at the foot of the bed can add a functional and stylish touch. If you’re feeling bold, consider a tartan headboard that makes a definitive statement.
4. **Throw Blankets and Pillows**
For those who favor a more subtle touch, tartan plaid throw blankets and cushions are a simple method to infuse the pattern into your bedroom. Drape a plaid blanket over a chair or layer it on your bed to add warmth and texture. Mixing various tartan styles can create a fun yet cohesive aesthetic.
5. **Rugs and Carpets**
A tartan plaid area rug can anchor the design and unify the room. Opt for a rug that complements the color scheme of your bedding and other accents. A larger rug featuring a neutral tartan design can ground the space, whereas a smaller, vibrant rug can serve as a focal point.
6. **Wall Décor**
Tartan plaid can extend beyond textiles. Consider incorporating the pattern into your wall decor. Framed tartan fabric, wallpaper with a subtle plaid print, or a tartan-themed bulletin board can provide visual intrigue without overwhelming the space.
7. **Seasonal Accents**
Tartan plaid shines during the autumn and winter months, exuding a cozy and festive feel. Incorporate seasonal decorations like plaid stockings, wreaths, or decorative garlands to evoke a holiday atmosphere in your bedroom. However, tartan can be stylish year-round when paired with lighter, neutral elements.

### **Color Coordination and Styling Advice**
When working with tartan plaid, achieving a harmonious look hinges on effective color coordination. Here are several tips to consider:
– **Adhere to a Palette:** Select one or two primary colors from your tartan pattern to form the foundation of your room’s color scheme. For instance, if your tartan features red and green, weave those colors into your accessories like lampshades, vases, or artwork.
– **Counterbalance Bold Patterns:** Tartan plaid serves as a statement design, so temper it with solids and simpler textures. Neutral walls, wooden furniture, and subtle decor help prevent the room from feeling overly busy.
– **Mix and Match:** Don’t hesitate to combine diverse tartan patterns, ensuring they share a common color to maintain coherence. Pairing tartan with other designs such as stripes or floral prints can also produce an eclectic yet refined aesthetic.
– **Layer Textures:** Blend tartan plaid with other inviting textures such as faux fur, chunky knits, or velvet to amplify the room’s sense of warmth and comfort.
