I’ll be honest. I was quite oblivious about Berlin, Germany. I suppose I just envisioned the Cold War and thought it wouldn’t appeal to me. How wrong I was! So wrong, in fact, that I wish we could’ve lingered there longer.
I cherish it when I travel to a location that is not only stunning but also provides a history lesson I never knew I needed. Our visit lasted just a day, and it was absolute perfection. The weather was ideal, and we got to explore the city and uncover everything it had in store.
There were countless “oh wow!” experiences for my husband and me. We took a tour to observe the stark contrast between West and East Berlin—even after all these years.
The former path of the Berlin Wall extends throughout the city. We were filled with wonder as we strolled freely from one side to another, reflecting on the countless individuals who would have lost their lives for the same freedom years before.
We also visited the location of the book burning at Bebelplatz. The memorial consisted of an underground library at the site. It was incredibly remarkable to witness this.
The bear has become an emblem of Berlin, and we enjoyed locating the various representations of him throughout the city.
This Holocaust Memorial was among the most poignant I have ever experienced. Once again, we wandered solo, simply absorbing everything around us.
I had a fan moment when we discovered that the Ante Nationalgalerie was presenting an Impressionist art exhibition. It’s my favorite form of art, and I was astounded it was showcased during our visit!

There is SO MUCH more I could discuss regarding Berlin, but just know that I wasn’t particularly excited about visiting…until I was thoroughly proven WRONG. It was both beautiful AND rich in history. I highly recommend it!
