I’ll confess. I was uninformed about Berlin, Germany. I suppose I merely imagined the Cold War and assumed it wouldn’t be a place I’d appreciate. How wrong I was! So wrong, in fact, that I wish we could have spent even more time there.
I enjoy visiting places that are not only stunning but also provide a history lesson I didn’t realize I needed. We were there for only a day, and it was flawless. The weather was perfect, allowing us to explore the city and uncover all its offerings.
There were countless “oh my gosh!” moments for both my husband and me. We joined a tour that highlighted the stark differences between West and East Berlin—even after all these years.
The ghost line of the Berlin Wall stretches across the city. We were mesmerized as we moved freely from one side to the other, contemplating how many lives were lost for the same opportunity years ago.
We also visited the site of the book burning at Bebelplatz. The memorial features an underground library at the location. It was so fascinating to see this.
The bear became an emblem of Berlin, and we delighted in spotting the various depictions of him throughout the city.
This Holocaust Memorial was one of the most impactful I have ever visited. Again, we strolled at our own pace, soaking it all in.
I had a moment of sheer excitement when we found out that the Alte Nationalgalerie was hosting an Impressionist art exhibition. It’s my favorite style, and I was thrilled to see it featured while we were there!
As a perfect example? This is me fully excited. It was incredible to observe their brushwork! Their signatures! Ugh. Love you, Claude.
There is SO MUCH more I could elaborate on regarding Berlin, but just know that I wasn’t too keen on visiting—and then I was utterly proven WRONG. It was both stunning AND rich in history. I strongly recommend it!
