Last week, our crew embarked on a journey to Seattle, and wow, what an incredible segment of the planet. The water! The evergreen trees! The coffee! Here are a handful of snapshots, in case you’re interested…
Initially, Jannelle Sanchez, Maureen Heffernan, Kaitlyn Teer, and I gathered with the poet Kate Baer in Seattle for a Big Salad gathering. Kate’s verses have consistently elicited both laughter and tears from us (“I’m a cool poet,” she quipped during our conversation), and it was truly enjoyable to spend time together, savor smoked fish dip, chat about reality TV, and sample lipsticks at Sephora, as one tends to do.
On our first evening, we devoured a scrumptious meal at Harry’s Fine Foods…
…and then settled into their guest house next door. Isn’t this bedroom absolutely stunning with all the coordinating fabrics?
My room featured a massive tub…
…and we gushed over the design elements, like this charming tugboat hook (which I believe is crafted by Nickey Kehoe?). Upon arrival, I exclaimed, “I adore noticing all the tiny details,” and Kaitlyn echoed, “Absolutely! Let’s explore every corner!” Such a delight.
One of the proprietors – Julian – dropped by with a bottle of wine that evening. Isn’t he adorable?
On our second day, we were thrilled to host a Big Salad event, where Kate and I discussed a myriad of topics from parenting tips to orgasms to women’s friendships. (You can listen to a live recording here, if you’re interested; it’s complimentary for everyone.) We thoroughly ENJOYED connecting with friends and readers there. In-person events always tug at my heartstrings.

The next day, we ventured on a team excursion to the San Juan Islands. We boarded a SEA PLANE, which made us all a bit anxious…
But once airborne, the journey felt surreal and enchanting. We spotted a whale, and Kaitlyn became emotional.
We arrived in Roche Harbor after about 45 minutes.

Our marketing director Maureen’s family has resided in Seattle for five generations, and her father took us out in his boat. He shared stories about the city’s history, including classic dad sayings like, “Feeling a bit chilly? Well…you’ll manage.”
Since our editors — like Kaitlyn, mentioned earlier — are based on the west coast, it’s always a pleasure to reunite in person.

The fragrance of pine and seaweed filled the air, complemented by the sounds of water gently lapping and birds chirping all around.
Ultimately, upon returning to Seattle, we noticed hot tub boats floating on the lake! Isn’t that absurdly funny? (The guys would lose it.) We fell in love with Seattle — a heartfelt thank you to this glorious city for an unforgettable visit.
