A few evenings ago, my children and I were discussing our preferred seasons, and my response was swift: autumn. I enjoy crunching on orange leaves and noticing toddlers carrying oversized backpacks. However, the best part is taking out warm clothes from the closet. Here are five items I’m eager to don…
1. Barn jacket. J.Crew is renowned for its style from 1983, but I’m particularly fond of Madewell’s denim variant and its cropped waxed option.
2. Brown corduroy. Nothing embodies fall more than brown corduroy; I’m all for rich hues and plush textures. Five garments: short dress, long dress, long trousers, cropped trousers, and overalls. (And if cash were no limitation!!)
3. Rugby shirts. My father played rugby during high school and college, and he often says, “rugby is like football without pads or helmets.” I’m quite delicate and would never set foot on a pitch, yet I adore the appearance of rugby shirts. Sporty vibes are trending this autumn, and here are three excellent choices: brown, cream, and green.
4. Track pants. On the sporty note, I’ve noticed many women in Brooklyn donning track pants with sweaters. The combination appears chic while feeling like loungewear. Adidas produces the classic style, and Universal Standard has a variety of trendy colors. Plus, my friend Jessie recently crafted a pair with wavy ric-rac stripes!
5. Red flats. The viral Sézane pair has sold out (though hopefully will return), but here are two comparable styles: ballet and glossy. They enhance any outfit with a splash of color.
Thoughts? What are you looking forward to wearing as the weather gets chillier? I’m also fond of this brown sweater with a single button fastened.
P.S. A playlist for extended strolls, along with our very casual fall checklist.

**Five Fashion Items to Embrace This Autumn**
As the leaves start to transform and the temperatures dip, it’s time to adapt your wardrobe to reflect the cozy and fashionable essence of fall. This season, style is about merging comfort with chic appearances, enabling you to show off your personal flair while staying warm. Here are five key fashion items to weave into your autumn collection:
1. **Chunky Knit Sweaters**
Chunky knit sweaters are an essential piece for fall. They provide warmth and comfort while creating a casual yet fashionable vibe. Choose neutral shades such as beige, gray, or cream for adaptability, or select vibrant autumn colors like burnt orange, mustard, or dark burgundy to stand out. Team them with skinny jeans or leggings for a balanced look, and finish off the outfit with ankle boots.
2. **Trench Coats**
The trench coat is a classic garment that brings elegance to any look. This autumn, seek out trench coats in traditional camel or play with striking colors like olive green or deep blue. The appeal of a trench coat lies in its versatility—it can be styled up or down, making it suitable for casual gatherings or formal events. Layer it over a turtleneck and tailored trousers for a refined appearance.
3. **Plaid Designs**
Plaid remains a timeless choice for autumn attire, evoking warmth and nostalgia. This season, incorporate plaid into your wardrobe via skirts, blazers, or scarves. A plaid blazer can elevate a simple outfit, while a plaid skirt with a chunky sweater creates a cozy and chic look. Don’t hesitate to mix various plaid designs for a modern update.
4. **Ankle Boots**
Ankle boots are a flexible footwear option that transitions effortlessly from summer to autumn. Whether you favor heeled or flat designs, ankle boots can match nearly any outfit. For a classic vibe, select leather or suede boots in black or brown. Alternatively, choose boots with unique elements like buckles or embroidery to inject some personality into your fall apparel.
5. **Midi Dresses**
Midi dresses are ideal for fall, presenting both coverage and style in one garment. Look for dresses in autumn-inspired patterns or solid tones that can be layered with cardigans or jackets. Midi dresses can be styled with tights and boots for a snug look or dressed up with heels for an evening out. The secret is to pick a silhouette that flatters your shape and allows for easy layering.
Adding these five fashion items to your autumn wardrobe will help you stay stylish and cozy as the temperatures fall. Remember to mix and match these pieces to create outfits that represent your individual style, and don’t hesitate to explore textures and colors to fully embrace the richness of fall fashion.
