The progress on the bar’s decor is exciting, and I’m enjoying discovering imaginative ways to showcase our beloved items! Two of our favorites: Proper Twelve Irish Whiskey (his) and candles (mine). So I combined those two elements (literally) and created some candle bottle decor that I adore.
Supplies for melted candles:
No matter what, ensure you put aluminum foil beneath the bottles. I’ve possibly learned this lesson the hard way.
I discovered this box of candles at At Home. Candles measuring 10-12 inches will work. To insert the candles into the bottles, hold a lighter to the bottom of the candle to warm it. After a few seconds, place it into the bottle, twisting it while gently pressing down. You’ll notice that this helps force the candle in and lets you align it properly.
This is where the issue arises. Today’s taper candles are designed so they don’t drip everywhere. Kudos to contemporary candle makers for improving things, but it complicates matters. 🙁
There are several methods to encourage the wax to drip down the sides. Essentially, you need to create a channel for the wax to flow. After some experimentation, I found that lighting another candle to create that channel while also melting wax from the candle I was holding proved most effective.
If that sounded confusing, don’t fret. You mainly need to assist the candles in getting the wax to drip. The best approach is using a lighter or another candle. Melt it to your desired look, and you’re all set!
I’m thrilled with how they’ve come out! It’s just the rugged candle bottle decor I needed for my shelves. I can’t wait to reveal more of the bar space! Don’t forget I share numerous updates on Instagram if you’re interested in following along!

Title: Transforming Everyday Bottles into Decorative Candle Holders
Introduction:
Decorative candle bottles serve as a delightful enhancement to any home decor, combining functionality with visual appeal. Creating these lovely items is a fulfilling DIY project that encourages creativity while repurposing used bottles. This article provides a guide on crafting your own decorative candle bottles, offering tips and inspiration for your designs.
Materials Needed:
1. Empty glass bottles (wine, soda, or any glass bottle)
2. Candles or wax
3. Wick (if crafting your own candles)
4. Glass cutter (optional, for bottle cutting)
5. Sandpaper
6. Paints and brushes
7. Decorative elements (twine, beads, stickers, etc.)
8. Glue or adhesive
9. Safety goggles and gloves
Step-by-Step Guide:
1. **Select Your Bottles:**
– Choose bottles based on the desired shape and size. Wine bottles are favored for their graceful form, although any glass bottle will suffice.
2. **Prepare the Bottles:**
– Thoroughly clean the bottles, eliminating labels and any adhesive. Soak them in warm, soapy water to simplify the removal process.
3. **Bottle Cutting (Optional):**
– If you wish to make open-top candle holders, use a glass cutter to cautiously trim the bottle to the desired height. Adhere to safety procedures, wearing goggles and gloves. Smooth any sharp edges with sandpaper.
4. **Painting and Decorating:**
– Use acrylic or glass-specific paints to color the bottles. Consider employing stencils for detailed designs. Ensure the paint dries completely.
– Add decorative touches like twine wrapped around the neck, beads arranged in patterns, or stickers for extra appeal.
5. **Candle Creation:**
– If making your own candles, melt wax in a double boiler. Affix the wick at the bottom of the bottle using a small amount of wax or a wick holder.
– Pour the melted wax into the bottle, keeping the wick centered. Let the wax cool and solidify completely.
6. **Final Touches:**
– Trim the wick to about 1/4 inch above the wax surface.
– Add any finishing decorative elements, such as tying a ribbon around the neck or attaching a personalized tag.
7. **Display and Enjoy:**
– Position your decorative candle bottles in an appropriate spot, like a mantelpiece, dining table, or outdoor space. Make sure they are on a stable surface away from flammable materials.
Tips and Ideas:
– Play with various color combinations to reflect seasonal themes or complement home decor.
– Use frosted glass spray for a soft, diffused lighting effect.
– Incorporate natural accents like dried flowers or leaves for a rustic aesthetic.
Conclusion:
Making decorative candle bottles is a joyful way to repurpose glass bottles while adding a personal flair to your home decor. With a few materials and a dash of creativity, you can create beautiful pieces that serve as both functional candles and striking decorations. These DIY candle bottles make impressive personal touches or thoughtful gifts.
