The bar’s decorative setup is progressing nicely, and I’m enjoying discovering imaginative methods to showcase our favorite things! Two favorites: Proper Twelve Irish Whiskey (his) and candles (mine). So, I combined those two elements (literally) and created some candle bottle decor that I absolutely adore.
Supplies for melted candles:
Whatever you choose to do, ensure you put aluminum foil beneath the bottles. I might have learned this lesson the hard way.
I discovered this box of candles at At Home. Candles that are 10-12 inches long will work. To insert the candles into the bottles, warm the bottom of the candle with a lighter for a few seconds. Then, push it into the bottle while twisting gently. This way, it will slide in and allow you to straighten it out.
Here’s where the issue arises. Nowadays, taper candles are designed so they don’t drip everywhere. Kudos to today’s candle makers for improving things, but in doing so, they made the task trickier. 🙁
There are various methods to actually get the wax to melt and run down the side. Basically, you’ll need to create a channel for the wax to flow down. After experimenting a bit, I found that lighting another candle to burn the channel while also using wax from the candle I was holding yielded the best results.
Don’t fret if this seems a bit unclear. In essence, you just need to aid the candles to let the wax drip. The best approach is using a lighter or another candle. Melt it to your liking, and you’re all set!
I’m incredibly happy with how they turned out! It’s just the masculine candle bottle decor I needed for my shelves. I’m eager to share more of the bar area with you! Remember, I frequently post updates on Instagram if you’d like to follow along!

## **Step-by-Step Instructions for Crafting Decorative Candle Bottles**
### **Step 1: Prepare the Glass Bottles**
1. **Clean the bottles** – Thoroughly wash the bottles with warm, soapy water to eliminate any dirt or labels. Allow them to dry fully.
2. **Cut the bottle (optional)** – For an open-top candle, use a glass cutter to slice the bottle and smooth the edges. If you prefer to keep the bottle whole, you can pour the wax directly inside.
3. **Decorate the exterior** – If you wish to paint, etch, or apply decals to the bottle, do so before pouring in the wax. Allow all decorations to dry completely.
### **Step 2: Fix the Wick**
1. **Select the right wick size** – Ensure the wick fits the bottle’s diameter for an even burn.
2. **Attach the wick** – Use a wick sticker or a small amount of melted wax to secure the wick to the bottom of the bottle.
3. **Maintain wick position** – Wrap the top of the wick around a skewer or wick holder to keep it centered during the wax pouring process.
### **Step 3: Melt the Wax**
1. **Utilize a double boiler** – Place the wax in a heat-safe container and melt over low heat using a double boiler. If using a microwave, heat in brief intervals, stirring between each.
2. **Incorporate fragrance and color** – Once fully melted, add fragrance oil (approximately 1 oz per pound of wax) and color chips if desired. Stir thoroughly to combine.
### **Step 4: Pour the Wax**
1. **Let the wax cool slightly** – Pouring wax that is excessively hot can lead to air bubbles or cracks. Allow it to cool to about 130-140°F (54-60°C).
2. **Pour the wax slowly** – Carefully pour wax into the bottle, ensuring the wick stays centered. Leave about ½ inch of space at the top.
3. **Allow to set** – Let the wax cool and solidify completely (this could take several hours).
### **Step 5: Trim the Wick**
After the wax has fully hardened, trim the wick to approximately ¼ inch to achieve a clean and even burn.
### **Step 6: Finalize Decorations**
Enhance the visual appeal of your candle bottle with:
– **Ribbons or twine** – Wrap around the bottle’s neck for a rustic feel.
– **Labels or tags** – Include a personalized message or scent description.
– **Paint or glitter** – Personalize the bottle with artistic touches.

## **Tips for Perfecting Your Decorative Candle Bottle**
– **Select the right wax** – Soy wax offers cleaner and longer burns, while paraffin wax delivers a stronger scent.
– **Opt for high-quality fragrance oils** – For a delightful and enduring aroma.
– **Test wick dimensions** – A wick that’s too small won’t burn effectively, while one that’s too large may create excessive soot.
– **Exercise patience** – Let the candle cure for 24-48 hours before lighting for optimal scent efficacy.
