Important Things to Bring for a Journey to Paris

What do you take with you when traveling? In early May, I’m off to Paris for a blend of work and leisure, and I truly can’t wait. I don’t believe I’ve visited Paris during springtime — my previous visits were in the winter — and I’m eager to witness the trees and flowers in bloom! Here’s what’s going in my carry-on, and I’d love to hear your packing list too…

1. A few years back, while overseas, I noticed women sporting very baggy shirts, and I instantly adored the effortless chic style. I have this white shirt that I can mix and match with everything else in my suitcase.

2. Cotton shirts compress into the tiniest squares, so I always include a mini stack of white tees, plus a striped one, to switch up throughout the week.

3. Among my essential basics, I also enjoy bringing along a delicate, lovely piece. This floral top drapes gracefully on your skin, it feels like a gentle touch. (There are plenty available on Poshmark and eBay as well.)

4. Do you have a favorite item you’ve worn repeatedly? I just realized that for the last 9-10 years, I’ve included this lightweight navy sweater on every single journey! It’s perfect for year-round wear and versatile enough for a flight or a nice dinner, wherever you decide. I’m pleased to say my cost-per-wear is now about $1.

5. Two pairs of jeans: one blue and one black. This black pair is especially fantastic — fits superbly and offers enough stretch to feel like sweatpants.

6. Barn jackets are everywhere in NYC, and this white one with a corduroy collar feels so refreshing for spring. The fit’s a tad large, so consider going down a size if you give it a try!

7. I’ve been wearing a silky blue shirt all winter (evidence A, B), so when I discovered they make a dress version, I was THRILLED. Spring wardrobe, unlocked.

8. For evening outings and dinners — whether at home or while traveling — I’m excited to put on this beautiful dress. Just add freckled shoulders:)

9. My reliable Away rolling carry-on, naturally.

10. And pajamas for lounging around the rental apartment and whipping up buttery toast in the morning.

11. Lastly, I’m bringing white sneakers, as per usual. This particular pair is cushioned and comfy enough to traverse the town without getting blisters or sore feet.

12. Additionally, pink ballet flats. This pair is a bit pricey, but these two styles are nice too: square and round. On a side note: My friend Alison also wears actual ballet slippers at home, and they’re absolutely adorable!
