Kate Lindello’s Weekly Attire Exhibition

“I dress practically, but I enjoy adding a playful twist or something unconventional,” remarks Kate Lindello, the creator of Noihsaf Bazaar, a marketplace for pre-owned clothing that highlights independent designers. Residing in Duluth, Minnesota, with her family, she offers thrifting insights, luxurious winter coats, and jeans so comfy they’re perfect for flying…

Dress: Kenzo’s collaboration with H&M from 2016, available secondhand. “I snagged this dress on Noihsaf before it even hit Instagram — it’s 100% silk.”

“Back in 2013, I was at home with a newborn during one of Duluth’s harshest winters, with temperatures plunging below zero for 50 consecutive days. I had left my job and was grappling with postpartum depression. One day, I launched an Instagram account to share vintage garments from beloved small brands that I no longer wore. It was during a time when Instagram was flooded with styled photos of lattes and cats. Soon enough, others began to inquire if they could sell their items, and thus, our community took shape.”

“Experiencing postpartum depression made me lose touch with my identity. The path to overcoming depression and regaining my sense of self felt incredibly liberating, leading me to proclaim, Forget it. I’m going to embrace life and wear whatever I wish. This anklet is now a constant piece of jewelry for me; wearing it, even with lounge clothes, ensures I feel put together.”

“This is Crouton; he’s a large, affectionate baby. These Rachel Comey jeans are the coziest pair I own, and I even wear them on planes! That’s my benchmark for comfort. To me, checkered Vans serve as a neutral staple, and they last for years. I also own them in red, and when I’m feeling adventurous, I wear one of each color.”

“Spying this shirt at a thrift shop left me breathless. I adore mixing simple jeans with a vibrant textured top. When thrifting, I constantly search for vintage Wranglers, 100% cotton tees, L.L. Bean or Lands’ End pieces, and vintage Norma Kamali dresses. The men’s section is often filled with treasures, and I explore outside my usual clothing size since vintage sizing can vary widely.”

“A friend of mine decided to scale the Grand Tetons at 40. She invited me to join, and I enthusiastically agreed, despite not being a climber. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor, causing the trip to get postponed until last summer. By then, I had developed a keen interest in yo-yoing. The guide reviews everything you bring to limit excess weight. Upon seeing my yo-yo, he exclaimed, ‘No way.’ So, I had to hide it. The climb was breathtaking. For hiking gear, I’m a fan of Patagonia and Matek.”

“Amy Smilovic, the founder of Tibi, once shared how delightful it is to receive a compliment in a checkout line; it brightens my day when a random person at the grocery store says, ‘Awesome look.’ At fashion gatherings, folks often appear quite polished and similarly styled. I favor that spontaneous, authentic personal style that inspires one to compliment a stranger.”

“Every year, my friend Emily crafts a hat for me. I select the yarn and send it to her, and then a hat arrives in the mail. People frequently inquire where I bought them, but Emily insists she enjoys knitting too much to make it a job. This water-bottle carrier that clips to bike handlebars is from a fantastic local company, Romp Bags.”

“People often inquire about cultivating a personal style. For me, feeling good is paramount. Just because an item looks good or fits well doesn’t guarantee it feels good to wear. It’s crucial to pay attention to that.”

“For years, I noticed that Rachel Comey sweatshirts would get listed on Noihsaf only to sell out immediately. They boast nearly a 100% sell-through rate, but even secondhand, they retain a hefty price tag. Finally, I snagged one during a great sale, and I wear it constantly. It fits so wonderfully and matches nearly everything.”

“Shopping secondhand involves having a discerning eye, but equally important is knowing when not to purchase something. Creating a thrift wish list can prevent impulse buying. When I’m uncertain, it gives me joy to picture someone else finding that ‘This is exactly what I was searching for!’ moment.”
