I’ve been experimenting with more products from Merit and the newest lipstick launch is stunning! They introduced a lightweight matte lipstick named the Signature Lip Blush ($28 each, available at Sephora and Merit). It’s a sheer, minimalist lip product featuring a blurred matte finish. The formula is extremely lightweight as claimed, yet still provides a balmy sensation.
They released Archival in a set over the holiday season (check out the review here and see it in action here) and have recently expanded the collection with 7 additional shades.
I received two shades in PR: Andie, the loveliest baby pink, and Vendome, a gorgeous beige tan. I adore both shades and feel they’re ideal for everyday use. I’m also still very fond of Archival as a lovely mauve that’s cool-toned without leaning too blue. I paired each lip look with the Merit Flush Balm Cream in Le BonBon.

However, there are a few drawbacks. If you enjoy strong color payoff or extended wear, these lipsticks may not meet your expectations. The pigment in the shades I tested is quite sheer, and while you can swipe and layer for additional coverage, they still maintain a very sheer quality. It’s almost akin to a blotted lip stain, but sheer. The longevity isn’t satisfactory for me, although I haven’t tried them over a lip liner. I speculate this may be due to the balmy formula. It’s not a deal breaker for me, but I wanted to highlight it since many of you seek long-wearing products that require only 1-2 touch-ups throughout the day.
For a matte finish, I generally prefer a product with more opacity, although I genuinely like the shades I sampled. The formula is extremely comfortable and easy to apply. I also appreciate that it offers a degree of hydration, as it doesn’t dry out my lips.
