“Methods by Natasha Pickowicz for Long Hair Styling”

"Methods by Natasha Pickowicz for Long Hair Styling"

Natasha Pickowicz boasts remarkable hair, with an abundance of it. As both a chef and a writer (her latest cookbook, Everyone Hot Pot, is now available!), her demanding role requires her hair to be secured back. “Initially, I would pull it into a tight bun or ponytail, causing me TERRIBLE headaches,” she recounts. After experimenting, Natasha discovered a simple and enjoyable style that works wonders…

Natasha shares:

“With my hair being thick and coarse, typical of much Chinese hair, I keep it off my face by pulling back the top section into a small bun or half-ponytail using a hair accessory. I favor large accessories that complement my hair’s volume, like oversized scrunchies. Ganni’s hold their stretch well and come in fantastic designs, which I look out for during sales. I also recommend visiting Asian supermarkets or snack outlets — like Daiso, H Mart, or Teso — for affordable and charming Korean or Japanese hair accessories.”

“I adore wearing large bows high atop my head, akin to Minnie Mouse. Giant claw clips are also favorites, reminiscent of the ’90s/Wet Seal era. I frequently go through many of these oversized bobby pins, as they are the only ones that hold my thick hair effectively.”

“Lately, I’ve sported this gold ribbon as my lucky token on my cookbook tour. Wearing gold during the lunar new year is considered lucky. I prefer it slightly crinkled/floppy for a less twee look. This particular ribbon was wrapping from a gift my friend Maria gave at my book celebration.”

And, how wonderful is this illustration of Natasha by João Fazenda in a recent New Yorker???

What hair accessories are your favorites? Do you have a standout hair style? Thanks, Natasha! Congratulations on Everyone Hot Pot!

P.S. Another simple hair trend (perfect for hotter days), and three techniques for parting your hair.

Natasha Pickowicz, celebrated for her innovative hairstyling paradigm, has become a sought-after resource for mastering long hair techniques. Her approach melds inventiveness with practicality, ensuring each style is chic and functional. Here’s a glimpse into her primary techniques for long hair:

1. **Layering for Fluidity**: Natasha underscores the significance of layering to inject movement and structure into long hair. Delicate layers create a lively appeal, boosting natural form and volume. This strategy is particularly beneficial for those with abundant hair, curbing excess while preserving length.

2. **Texturizing for Flexibility**: For adaptable styles, Natasha frequently employs texturizing techniques. She uses razoring and point-cutting to craft pliant, feathered ends that facilitate effortless styling. This method suits beach waves or sleek straight designs without altering the hair’s natural drift.

3. **Braiding for Detail**: Braids form a staple in Natasha’s styling palette. She utilizes varied braiding methods, from traditional French braids to elaborate fishtails, adding complexity and intrigue to long hair. Braids can be standalone styles or part of updos for a refined finish.

4. **Updos for Sophistication**: For occasions demanding formality, Natasha excels at crafting sophisticated updos that accentuate long hair’s length and allure. She often intertwines twists, knots, and braids to develop exquisite designs that are both secure and striking. Her updos are noted for blending structure with softness, ideal for weddings and events.

5. **Heat Styling for Precision**: Natasha advocates using heat tools to define and enhance long hair. She advises using curling irons and straighteners with adjustable heat to avert damage. Crafting relaxed curls or smooth styles adds polish and sophistication to any look.

6. **Product Usage for Control and Luster**: To maintain styles, Natasha uses a curated product range. She advocates for light mousses and volumizers to enhance root lift, alongside serums and oils for luster and frizz reduction. Her product selections assure style endurance whilst keeping hair robust and vibrant.

7. **Adorning for Expression**: Natasha proposes accessories as a means to personalize and elevate long hairstyles. From decorative pins and clips to headbands and scarves, she asserts accessories can transform a simple style into a statement piece. Her inventive accessory use allows for individual style expression and hairstyle adaptation across events.

Natasha Pickowicz’s long hair styling techniques epitomize her mastery and creativity. By merging fundamental skills with innovative methodologies, she empowers individuals to embrace their long tresses and explore diverse styles. Whether for daily wear or special occasions, her techniques provide limitless possibilities for those wishing to amplify their long hair.
