Maybe the only thing I adore more than plaid is tartan plaid. There’s just something about this pattern in the classic Christmas hues that makes me giddy during the festive season. Giddy like a girl at a Harry Styles concert. Or a girl eyeing a box of doughnuts–both of which I can relate to.
This week, I’m collaborating with some exceptionally talented blogging friends to showcase our holiday rooms. Don’t believe me? Take a look at this list! If you’ve come here from Shand at Quarters One, welcome! I’m thrilled to have you!
Tartan Plaid Bedroom
I don’t do much decorating in our bedrooms now that my children have grown up (translation: they don’t care much), so it was an excellent chance to refresh my son’s room/guestroom. Something else I rarely do? Use red in my decor! THIS was quite the adventure.
I’ve realized that I enjoy decorating, but I’m not so fond of the prop styling that comes with modern blogging. I resolved to use items I already own and keep it from feeling too staged. Does that resonate with anyone?
I didn’t even arrange the pillows AT ALL until my dog performed a leap into them during the shoot. He was promptly ushered out of the room while I removed dog hair from the navy blanket. Good grief.
Speaking of pillows! Wowza!! Am I right? They truly steal the spotlight. Even better is that I found tartan pillows on Amazon for such a steal! I saved a significant amount! But then I ended up purchasing more since they were so affordably priced. So I didn’t save as much as I thought! Oops.
I simply adore the look of a daybed adorned with a plethora of tousled pillows. It conveys a message: “Come lie down. Don’t do any work. It’s all good. Seriously.” It’s a very inviting daybed.
Want to hear a little secret (or contradiction, right, Chris)? When my son departed for Europe, I cleared out his room and ripped up the carpet. I haven’t replaced it yet. The image below shows the subfloor beneath the bed! It’s about time bloggers revealed the unsightly truths, don’t you think? Just me? 🙂
Whatever. It is what it is. But it does make me chuckle (and sigh) at how misleading pictures can be.
I know there are many pictures, but this one is truly among my favorites. Tartan plaid holds my heart eternally. Along with Harry Styles. And Harry Styles IN tartan plaid.

**Tartan Plaid-Themed Bedroom Décor Concepts: A Cozy and Enduring Style**
Tartan plaid, with its rich legacy and timeless appeal, has been linked to warmth, tradition, and rustic elegance. Hailing from Scottish origins, tartan designs have moved beyond their cultural roots to become a cherished design feature in contemporary home interiors. When integrated into bedroom design, tartan plaid can foster a cozy, welcoming, and chic ambiance that harmonizes comfort with elegance. Whether you’re seeking a rustic lodge essence, a traditional country vibe, or a modern take on classic patterns, tartan plaid provides diverse choices. Below are some inspiring tartan plaid-themed bedroom décor suggestions to help you revitalize your area.
—
### 1. **Select a Tartan Color Palette**
Tartan features an array of color combinations, each conveying a distinct ambiance. Prior to diving into decorating, choose a color scheme that suits your personal taste and the room’s existing characteristics.
– **Timeless Reds and Greens**: Perfect for a traditional or holiday-themed aesthetic.
– **Blues and Grays**: Establish a tranquil, modern, and masculine atmosphere.
– **Subdued Earth Tones**: Ideal for rustic or farmhouse-style bedrooms.
– **Vibrant and Bold Colors**: Create an impression with lively tartan patterns for a fresh edge.
—
### 2. **Tartan Bedding and Linens**
The bed is the centerpiece of any bedroom, making it the ideal spot to feature tartan plaid.
– **Duvet Covers and Comforters**: Choose a tartan-patterned duvet to set the theme instantly.
– **Plaid Throw Blankets**: Lay a soft wool or fleece tartan throw at the bed’s foot for extra texture and warmth.
– **Accent Pillows**: Combine tartan pillows with solid or textured fabrics to enhance visual interest.
—
### 3. **Tartan Curtains and Window Treatments**
Tartan curtains can infuse a dramatic and cozy vibe, especially during chillier seasons. Opt for heavier materials like wool or flannel for insulation and a luxurious touch. For a lighter appearance, consider tartan valances or Roman shades.
—
### 4. **Furniture and Upholstery**
Incorporate tartan through upholstered furniture items such as:
– **Plaid Armchairs or Benches**: Position a tartan-upholstered chair in a reading area or at the bed’s foot.
– **Headboards**: A headboard covered in tartan fabric can serve as a striking focal point.
– **Ottomans and Footstools**: Small upholstered pieces contribute charm without dominating the area.
—
### 5. **Wall Treatments and Accents**
While tartan wallpaper may be overly bold for some, it can be stunning as an accent wall.
– **Tartan Wallpaper**: Use it behind the bed or in a reading nook to create a highlight.
– **Framed Tartan Fabric**: Exhibit swatches of various tartan designs for a DIY art installation.
– **Plaid Wall Decals**: For a temporary take, consider removable plaid decals or stickers.
—
### 6. **Floor Coverings**
A tartan area rug can anchor the space and unify the decor.
– **Wool Tartan Rugs**: Durable and warm, ideal for colder areas.
– **Layered Rugs**: Layer a tartan rug on top of a neutral rug for added depth and texture.
—
### 7. **Accessorize with Tartan Details**
Little touches can significantly enhance the overall look.
– **Tartan Lampshades**: Introduce a subtle plaid accent to your lighting.
– **Picture Frames and Mirrors**: Seek frames wrapped in tartan fabric or painted in plaid motifs.
– **Seasonal Décor**: Make use of tartan in holiday adornments like wreaths, stockings, or garlands for a spirited flair.
—
### 8. **Mixing Patterns and Textures**
To prevent overwhelming the space, balance tartan with other materials and patterns.
– **Pair with Neutrals**: Utilize solid colors like cream, beige, or grey to soften bold plaids.
– **Layer with Knits and Furs**: Incorporate cozy textures like cable-knit throws or faux fur cushions for a warm, inviting atmosphere.
– **Combine with Florals or Stripes**: If you’re feeling bold, mix tartan with other patterns in complementary shades.
—
### 9. **Lighting and Ambiance**
Tartan-themed bedrooms often evoke warmth and comfort, making lighting essential.
– **Warm Lighting**: Use soft, warm-toned bulbs to enrich the cozy ambiance.
– **Rustic Fixtures**: Select light fixtures crafted from wood, wrought iron, or vintage brass to match the traditional aesthetic.
—
### 10. **Personal Elements and Memorabilia**
Incorporate personal touches to add character and warmth to your space.
