Exciting news in our little corner—your niece, also known as my little Coywolf, has embarked on her third-grade adventure. Her inaugural day was Thursday, and I’m thrilled to share that she returned home beaming with joy about her class and her new teacher. She’s already formed a new friendship and enjoyed an “epic playdate” featuring not one, not two, but four cats. FOUR CATS! Just a side note, Tabs would never have allowed that. LOL. I think about that silly cat every single day.
Crossing my fingers and toes that this year will be fantastic for her. I’m wishing for plenty of positive experiences with her classmates and a decrease in girl drama.
Sadly, the presence of cliques and alliances has already emerged, sigh. It’s astonishing to realize that this is happening in third grade, but maybe it’s just a normal part of growth that I was oblivious to?

I recall in my class there were the girls labeled as “the pretty girls,” but I was blissfully unaware of social hierarchies and not too invested in the happenings around me. I guess I was too focused on blending into the background and staying out of the spotlight. Perhaps that naiveté was one of the unexpected perks of being somewhat neglected and left to figure things out on my own, ha ha ha!
Oh! When I left Connor in her classroom, I was astonished not to be hit by that familiar emotional wave that usually washes over me after I bid her goodbye and walk away. This time, I felt quite at ease, almost as if I knew she would be just fine and capable of dealing with whatever comes her way.
Maybe I’m gradually mastering the challenging art of letting her step into the world. Perhaps we are both maturing.
Now that she’s back in school and the hectic summer camp juggling is behind me, I’m aiming to reestablish a consistent writing routine. I’m not sure when it happened, but I have a strong desire for stability, particularly in my daily schedule. The unpredictability affects everything, including writing. I’m hopeful that next month will allow for easier opportunities to settle at the keyboard and ramble on about who knows what, LOL! It’s just a joy to have the time to write, you know?
