Constantly seeking fresh coffee experiences whenever I visit London, I stumbled upon two new spots and am excited to share one of my favorites with you.
2 Love Coffeehouse, 89 St John’s Rd, London SW11 1QY
Situated at the junction of St Johns Road and Battersea Rise, just about a 5-6 minute stroll from the bustling Clapham Junction railway station, is 2 Love Tea and Coffee – though their coffee selection clearly takes the lead on the menu. I’ve actually been here multiple times; if I can sneak out of the house before the day’s plans are set, I can grab a great flat white. Upon entering, an enticing display of cakes greets you on the left that only those who dislike cakes would disregard. I must admit, I’ve overlooked these on occasion but have also given in to the allure of their red velvet and carrot cakes at other times.
I typically stop here for a solid flat white and often purchase coffee to take back to Dubai as well.
They feature their own espresso blends but also offer and sell Monmouth coffees and those from other London-based roasters.
The Coffee Guild, 106 Walton Street, Oxford OX2 6AJ
On the day of our son’s master’s graduation and following a lengthy period without specialty coffee, I was delighted to spot this café on our way to the celebration dinner across the street. While everyone else headed to the restaurant, I had to pause to grab a drink after noticing the La Marzocco Linea espresso machine – I must sound like a caffeine enthusiast… Regardless, it was worth my stop, a double espresso, just what I needed to carry on through the rest of the day.
On our return trip after dinner, my brother couldn’t resist ordering a latte, and I picked up a bag of their espresso blend.
Two aspects truly impressed me at this café.
First, when’s the last time you found a coffee shop in England open after 6pm? I can only think of Watch House in Bloomsbury, London. Curious, I inquired with the owner, and he informed me that they remain open until 11pm… yes, you read that correctly. I’m fairly certain no other coffee shop in England operates this late.
Secondly, the owner and the staff were so welcoming that I almost felt inclined to bestow upon them the title of “the happiest coffee shop in England”. Their enthusiasm for serving coffee and sharing that they’re open until 11pm was truly remarkable.
Highly recommended.
Treelogy Coffee, 50 Eastbourne Terrace, Paddington, London W2 6LG
I must admit that when a friend from London suggested we meet here for coffee and to catch up, I was somewhat doubtful – likely due to the name. I nearly suggested a different place, but since I knew our time was limited, I decided to look them up first.
Indeed, I spotted photos of their latte art, but I wanted to learn more. So, I arrived a bit early before my meeting to check out the scene. Unlike most London cafés, aside from the elegant and classy Watch House, this one appeared quite corporate because it was situated at the base of a modern office building adjacent to the newly renovated Paddington railway station. After watching the barista and examining their coffee options, I placed an order for a cortado.
It was delightful, and maybe I shouldn’t judge a coffee shop based on its flooring… Ha!.
