Maybe the only thing I adore more than plaid is tartan plaid. There’s something about it in traditional Christmas hues that makes me swoon during the festive season. Swooning like a girl at a Harry Styles concert. Or a girl staring at a box of doughnuts–both of which I’ve experienced.
I’m teaming up with some incredibly talented blogging friends to showcase our holiday spaces this week. Don’t believe it? Check out this impressive lineup! If you’re coming from Shand at Quarters One, welcome! I’m thrilled to have you here!
Tartan Plaid Bedroom
I don’t do a lot of decorating in our bedrooms now that my kids are older (read: they’re not interested anymore), so it was a great chance to refresh my son’s room/guestroom. Something else I rarely do? Use red decor! THIS was a fun challenge.
I’ve come to understand that I love decorating, but I’m not a fan of the prop styling that often comes with modern blogging. I made a promise to myself to use what I already own and keep it authentic. Does that resonate?
I didn’t fluff the pillows even a bit until my dog made a spectacular leap into them during the shoot. He was promptly removed and kept out of the room while I pulled dog hair out of the navy blanket. Lord help me.
Speaking of pillows! Wow!! Am I right? They steal the show. Even better, I discovered the tartan pillows on Amazon, and they’re incredibly affordable! I saved a ton! But then I ended up buying more because they were so reasonably priced. So I didn’t save as much as I thought! Oops.
I absolutely love the aesthetic of a daybed adorned with a multitude of somewhat disheveled pillows. Something about it beckons, “Come lounge here. Don’t worry about chores. It’ll be okay. I mean it.” It’s a sociable daybed.
Want a little honesty (oxymoron much, Chris)? When my son departed for Europe, I cleared out his room and tore out the carpet. I haven’t replaced it yet. The picture below reveals the subfloor beneath the bed! I think it’s about time bloggers start revealing the not-so-pretty realities, right? Just me? 🙂
Whatever. It is what it is. But it does make me laugh (and cry) at how misleading photographs can be.
I know there are many images, but this is genuinely one of my favorites. Tartan plaid has stolen my heart forever. And so has Harry Styles. And Harry Styles IN tartan plaid.

**Comfortable Bedroom Decor Featuring Tartan Plaid Patterns**
When it comes to crafting a cozy and welcoming bedroom, few design elements evoke a sense of warmth and classic charm quite like tartan plaid. With its rich heritage, adaptable color palettes, and timeless appeal, tartan plaid can elevate any bedroom into a snug retreat. Whether you aspire for a rustic lodge vibe or a refined traditional look, including tartan plaid in your bedroom decor is a chic and effective means to enhance the atmosphere.
### What Is Tartan Plaid?
Tartan plaid is a design featuring intersecting horizontal and vertical bands in various colors. Originating in Scotland, tartan was historically utilized to identify distinct clans and families. Nowadays, it is celebrated globally for its aesthetic beauty and cultural significance. Tartan designs range widely, from vibrant reds and greens to more muted neutrals, making them perfect for an array of decor styles.
### Why Choose Tartan for Bedroom Decor?
Tartan plaid is more than merely a pattern—it embodies warmth, tradition, and comfort. Here are a few reasons why tartan is perfect for bedroom decor:
– **Timeless Appeal**: Tartan never goes out of fashion. It harmonizes effortlessly with both modern and classic interiors.
– **Versatility**: Available in a multitude of color combinations, tartan can complement any color scheme.
– **Cozy Vibes**: The layered lines and warm colors of tartan inherently invoke a sense of comfort and relaxation.
– **Seasonal Flexibility**: Tartan is especially popular in fall and winter, though lighter patterns can also work throughout the year.
### Ways to Incorporate Tartan Plaid in Your Bedroom
Here are some imaginative and stylish ways to integrate tartan plaid into your bedroom decor:
#### 1. **Tartan Bedding**
Begin with the bed—the centerpiece of any bedroom. A tartan duvet cover or comforter brings immediate warmth and personality. Opt for traditional red and green for a festive winter aesthetic, or select navy and gray for a more subtle, year-round style. Layer with solid-colored sheets and throw pillows to balance the pattern.
#### 2. **Plaid Throw Blankets**
Drape a tartan throw blanket over the foot of the bed or a reading chair. This simple addition provides texture and visual appeal while also serving a practical purpose on chilly nights.
#### 3. **Accent Pillows**
Combine tartan throw pillows with other textures like velvet, faux fur, or knit fabrics to create a warm and inviting bed scene. Choose pillows in complementary colors to unify the room.
#### 4. **Curtains and Window Treatments**
Tartan curtains can beautifully frame your windows, adding a hint of rustic elegance. Opt for a lighter fabric for a more airy atmosphere or a heavier wool blend for extra insulation and coziness.
#### 5. **Rugs and Floor Coverings**
A tartan area rug can ground the room and provide warmth underfoot. Look for rugs in muted tones if you prefer a subtle appearance, or be bold with a vibrant plaid to make a statement.
#### 6. **Upholstered Furniture**
Consider introducing tartan through upholstered pieces like an accent chair, bench, or headboard. This adds a touch of sophistication and can become a focal point in the room.
#### 7. **Wall Art and Accessories**
If you prefer a more understated approach, incorporate tartan in smaller accessories such as framed fabric swatches, lampshades, or decorative trays. These subtle additions can tie the room together without overwhelming the space.
### Tips for Styling with Tartan
– **Balance Patterns**: Tartan is a striking design, so pair it with solids or delicate textures to prevent visual overload.
– **Stick to a Color Palette**: Select one or two dominant colors from your tartan pattern and repeat them throughout the room for a cohesive look.
– **Layer Textures**: Mix tartan with other cozy materials like wool, flannel, and knit fabrics to enrich the warm, welcoming ambiance.
– **Mix with Neutrals**: Tartan pairs excellently with neutral shades like beige, gray, and cream, which help to ground the design and maintain a soothing environment.
### Final Thoughts
Tartan plaid is a classic and inviting choice for bedroom decor that brings warmth, texture, and a hint of tradition to your personal space. Whether you go all-in with an entire tartan-themed room or simply add a few plaid accents, this timeless pattern can help you craft a bedroom that feels both fashionable and cozy. So grab your favorite plaid throw, light a candle, and revel in the comforting allure of tartan in your snug retreat.
