So…what exactly is the Monday Poll?
Great question! It’s not really a poll in the traditional sense, with clickable buttons. Rather, it’s a collection of somewhat random inquiries I’ve been sharing on this blog every Monday morning for what feels like forever (since 2007).
1. How would you prefer to use some unexpected free time on an afternoon: watching a film, taking a stroll or diving into a book?
I would really appreciate some extra time to read! I recently discovered a new author I like, Rebecca Searle, and I’m currently reading through all her works.
2. What was the last thing that made you cry?
Well, I had a visit to the OBGYN last week, and I had a slight breakdown when the kind nurse measured my blood pressure. I think it’s a bit of residual post-traumatic stress from all the doctor visits last year, plus some hormonal fluctuations (darn this peri-menopause).
3. What would you choose to do with a friend: play card games, enjoy a picnic in the park or visit the farmers’ market?
Let’s hit the farmers’ market and try all the delightful spring fruits, then take home some $20 strawberries and a sourdough baguette!
4. Choose a complimentary hair service (provided by a stylist you adore, of course): haircut, highlights, a smoothing treatment or extensions?
I haven’t had a haircut since August (!), so a cut would be wonderful.
5. A noteworthy event from March?
Last month was full of activities for our family with plenty of memories created! My favorite moment was watching Connor dance in an individual improv competition (her first performance without her team) and seeing her advance to the finals. She didn’t win one of the top three awards, so she felt a bit let down, but she did receive a scholarship, which was fantastic.

### 1. **What’s the secret to making foundation last all day without looking heavy?**
Achieving longevity without heaviness revolves around balance and preparation. Begin with a pristine, moisturized face. Apply a lightweight, hydrating primer that matches your skin type—mattifying for oily skin, radiance-boosting for dry. Choose a long-wear foundation and build the coverage slowly with a damp beauty sponge. Set your foundation with a finely milled translucent powder, concentrating on areas that tend to get oily. Seal it with a setting spray to keep everything intact and achieve a more natural look.
**Pro Tip:** Refrain from layering too many products. Less is often more for a skin-like appearance.

### 2. **How can I stop my eyeliner from smudging throughout the day?**
Eyeliner smudging is a frequent issue, particularly for those with oily eyelids. To combat this:
– **Prime your eyelids** with an eyeshadow primer or a matte concealer.
– **Set the primer** with a translucent powder or neutral eyeshadow.
– **Opt for waterproof or gel liners** that are designed for durability.
– **Tightline** with a waterproof pencil and set it with coordinating eyeshadow for added longevity.
**Bonus Tip:** Avoid using heavy eye cream on the lids prior to makeup application, as it can break down the eyeliner.

### 3. **What distinguishes chemical from physical exfoliants, and which is more suitable for sensitive skin?**
– **Chemical exfoliants** utilize acids (like AHAs and BHAs) to break down dead skin cells.
– **Physical exfoliants** employ small particles or tools to manually remove dead skin.
For sensitive skin, **chemical exfoliants** tend to be gentler and more effective when used appropriately. Consider using **lactic acid** or **mandelic acid**, which are milder alternatives. Always perform a patch test and begin with once-a-week usage, gradually increasing frequency as your skin adapts.
**Avoid:** Abrasive scrubs with large, sharp particles (like walnut shells), which can result in micro-tears in the skin.

### 4. **What lip color trends are emerging this season?**
This season’s lip trends emphasize contrast and adaptability:
– **Vibrant Berries and Plums:** Ideal for fall and winter, these shades offer drama and richness.
– **Muted Mauves and Dusty Roses:** Perfect for everyday wear and universally flattering.
– **Glossy Finishes:** Lip gloss is making a significant comeback—seek non-sticky formulas with a bit of shimmer.
– **Lip Oils:** Blending hydration with a hint of color, lip oils are perfect for a fresh, dewy look.
**Try This:** Layer a lip oil over a matte lipstick for a customized glossy result.

### 5. **How can I adjust my skincare routine for colder months?**
As the temperature drops, skin can become drier and more sensitive. Here’s how to modify your approach:
– **Transition to a cream-based cleanser** rather than a foaming option.
– **Incorporate hydrating serums** with ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerin.
– **Opt for a richer moisturizer** to retain moisture.
– **Keep using SPF!** UV rays persist even in winter.
– **Reduce exfoliation** frequency to prevent stripping the skin.
**Extra Tip:** Use a humidifier in your home to combat dry indoor air.
—
### 6. **Can you suggest a budget-friendly mascara that performs like a luxury one?**
Certainly! Drugstore mascaras have advanced significantly. Some top recommendations include:
– **Maybelline Lash Sensational** – Excellent for volume and separation.
– **L’Oréal Voluminous Lash Paradise** – A great alternative to Too Faced Better Than Sex.
– **Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect** – Under $5 and provides dramatic effects.
**Pro Tip:** Change your mascara every 3 months to avoid eye irritation and ensure peak performance.
