Recently, I received an invitation to participate in a China Arab Expo held in Yinchuan, a city located roughly two hours southwest of Beijing. Although I couldn’t find a coffee shop there and relied on my Aeropress for my caffeine fix, I was aware that Beijing had much more to offer. Prior to my journey, I utilized Google to look up the finest specialty coffee in Beijing, and to my delight, Voyage Coffee was recommended.
So, on my second day in Beijing, I ensured that my initial destination in exploring the city—or rather, on my quest for great coffee—was the art district, 798 751 Park, where Voyage Coffee is situated. Initially, I felt a bit uneasy as I had completely underestimated the size of the establishment, and without WIFI, I started to feel anxious. However, upon entering from the main entrance in a pedestrian area, I noticed a sign indicating Voyage Coffee to my right… success!
I discovered that the main entrance was located in a sort of cul-de-sac, leading to a small adventure.
Upon arrival, you are welcomed with Nihao (hello in Chinese) amid a Scandinavian-inspired decor featuring light brown wood and concrete—urban Nordic chic, as I like to call it.
They feature a La Marzocco Strada with Mazzer grinders, and the menu provides options in Chinese on one side and English on the other. The café buzzed with both locals and expats, some working on laptops while enjoying their coffees.
I noticed their Probat 12kg coffee roaster displayed in a glass enclosure for everyone to see. A barista informed me that they roast every Tuesday. I opted for a flat white using their Black Forest blend, even though it was already late afternoon, as I hadn’t had any espresso-based coffee for days, along with a New York-style cheesecake.
Delicious. I experienced hints of chocolate and dried fruit along the edge of my palate, and the cheesecake was one my wife would have loved.
Before I finished my coffee, Cody, the lead barista, approached me to offer a Kenyan cold brew coffee.
I think she realized that I was a bit more serious about my coffee inquiries than the other customers, plus she had the best command of English, as the others appeared slightly confused when I began asking about flavor profiles.
I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to purchase a bag of beans, and Cody was thrilled and hurried to the back to retrieve one for me, BUT unfortunately, they were out of stock. I chose her second recommendation, an Ethiopian Mansa, as it was a natural processed variety.

I strolled around the art district as I was asked to check out another coffee shop, which I couldn’t locate, but I tried Manner coffee, which was decent, and I spotted %arabica, which had an appealing decor, but I found their beans too darkly roasted for my taste, so I skipped it.
