This year, Toby and Anton are at separate schools, and for the first time ever, they have distinct spring breaks. The upside was that we could go on one-on-one trips, which felt very special. Last week, Toby and I headed to San Francisco to see our family…
Once we reached, we headed straight to my sister Lucy’s house. How adorable is she?
My niece and I have a long-standing tradition of playing Block Blast while discussing everything/nothing in particular; so after a stroll in the evening and having pasta for dinner, we did exactly that.
The following day, Toby and I visited Sutro Baths, the former indoor public swimming pool complex. The fresh sea air felt amazing on our faces.
We also found this awesome comic book to take back home to Anton.
Additionally, since we’ve discussed packing a lot previously, I was pleased with my packing approach! Mainly black, white, cream, gray, and blue, so everything coordinated well. Shown here: jacket, shirt, jeans, and similar loafers.
We used my sister’s car to get around, but one afternoon, just for fun, we rode a self-driving Waymo. Observing the steering wheel maneuvering on its own is quite surreal initially but soon feels VERY secure — Waymos are essentially like A+ students, who make a complete rollback stop at every stop sign. My brother-in-law Jeevan recounted how he once saw a line of 10 Waymos patiently trailing a garbage truck up a hill without trying to pass, haha.
We were fortunate enough to meet some friends, like Julia and her little daughter…
…who gazed at teen Toby like he was the biggest superstar on the planet.
We also attended a Warriors game with some buddies.
A true nail-biter…
…but they achieved a 109-106 win in the last MINUTE.
Additionally, how amazing is this jacket???? The guy wearing it informed me it was crafted by Elias Guting.
The following day, Toby and I walked alongside the water, visited the Ferry Building, and drove down winding Lombard Street (challenging to capture in pictures!).
Finally, we had dinner with the cousins…
…and performed a quick height check. As I took this picture, Dr. Kalanithi inquired, “Are we the same?????” to which I responded, “Not even close.”
Eventually, we bid farewell and flew back home, stepping over this guy’s foot each time we needed to get up lol. It was such a joyful trip, and we felt so, so fortunate to be able to meet everyone. California, our love for you is immense!
Where does your family reside? Near or far away? How do you keep in touch? My sister and I also exchange five-minute calls.
P.S. Previous California trips, and what it’s like being twins.
