How was your weekend? Some months back, a CoJ reader named Molly inquired if everyone might share weekend recaps now and then, so here’s mine, and feel free to share yours in the comments, if you’d like…
Initially, this occurred a few weekends back, but guess what, Toby turned 16! Sixteen entire years since tummy time and wolf hats, and it’s been a thrilling and wonderful journey. xoxoxo
He now stands taller than Freddie and me!
In other news, the Knicks are in the NBA finals, and the entire city is going wild. I love all the blue-and-orange bagels and posters and balloons and outfits and donuts. Even though our family supports the Warriors, the energy is infectious.
Another major contest is underway in Brooklyn: a chess match between Anton and me. We’ve both become super into the game (thanks for your advice), and while Anton has more experience and has been defeating me, the games are at least becoming a bit closer!!!
He also wrapped up his school track season. Did you ever participate in track? If yes, what distance? As a lifelong non-runner, I’m always very amazed.
My friend Tembe — a beauty and culture writer — has a side gig, where she and her wife create ridiculously delicious biscuits in Brooklyn. She brought some over recently, and oh my gosh, you guys, if you are biscuit lovers, RUN DON’T WALK.
Finally, we attended my friend Leah’s son’s bar mitzvah, and here are some of the fun pictures! It was a black-tie pizza party with dancing, blackjack, and roulette. I wish every party could be organized by 13-year-olds 🙂
What did you do this weekend? Any amazing books? Movies? Gossip??? 🙂 I’d love to hear the ups or the downs, as always…
P.S. More weekend recaps, and plenty of book recs.
**Weekend Activities Recap: A Refreshing Break from Routine**
Weekends are a treasured moment for relaxation, adventure, and renewal. They offer a respite from the hustle and bustle of the workweek, providing a chance to engage in activities that bring joy and satisfaction. Here’s a rundown of some popular weekend pursuits that people often engage in to make the most of their time off.
**1. Outdoor Adventures: Embracing Nature**
Many people capitalize on the weekend to explore the great outdoors. Hiking, biking, and camping are popular picks for those aiming to connect with nature. National parks and local trails present scenic routes that grant both physical exercise and mental relaxation. For water lovers, kayaking, fishing, or merely spending a day at the beach can be incredibly invigorating.
**2. Cultural Experiences: Feeding the Soul**
Weekends are perfect for immersing oneself in cultural activities. Paying a visit to museums, attending art galleries, or catching a live performance at a theater can be both educational and inspiring. Many cities host weekend festivals or farmers’ markets, offering a taste of local culture and cuisine.
**3. Social Gatherings: Strengthening Bonds**
Spending quality time with friends and family is a cornerstone of weekend activities. Whether it’s throwing a barbecue, enjoying a potluck dinner, or simply gathering for a movie night, these social interactions are essential for maintaining strong relationships. For some, weekends are also a time for community service, volunteering at local shelters or participating in neighborhood clean-ups.
**4. Personal Projects: Nurturing Creativity**
The weekend provides an ideal opportunity to delve into personal projects or hobbies. Whether it’s gardening, painting, writing, or DIY home improvements, these activities allow individuals to express creativity and attain a sense of accomplishment. Many find that dedicating time to their passions is a rewarding way to unwind.
**5. Fitness and Wellness: Prioritizing Health**
For those focused on health and wellness, weekends are a great time to engage in physical activities that may not fit into the weekday schedule. Yoga classes, long runs, or group sports can be both invigorating and stress-relieving. Additionally, weekends offer a chance to prepare healthy meals and focus on nutrition.
**6. Relaxation and Self-Care: Recharging the Mind and Body**
Lastly, some prefer to use the weekend as a time for rest and relaxation. This might include sleeping in, enjoying a leisurely breakfast, or indulging in a spa day. Reading a good book, meditating, or simply taking a long bath can be excellent ways to recharge and prepare for the week ahead.
In conclusion, weekends are a versatile time that can be tailored to individual preferences and needs. Whether one seeks adventure, cultural enrichment, social connection, personal growth, or relaxation, the weekend offers a valuable opportunity to escape routine and enhance overall well-being.
