What was your weekend like? A while back, a CoJ reader named Molly suggested that we occasionally share weekend summaries, so here is mine, and feel free to share yours in the comments, if you’re interested…
My honorary niece Grace, who resides in England, is spending the summer engaged in medical research in New York — I’m thrilled she’s here! Since Saturday turned out to be very wet, we decided to take her to Art of Play, a magic and games shop in Brooklyn Heights.
We had a blast with the little puzzles. Once you solve one, the shop owner rings a bell, which was thrilling for a 13-year-old, 16-year-old, 23-year-old, and 47-year-old alike.
Later, I glimpsed this amusing New Yorker cartoon…
…and met Alison, who, unconventional as always, now totes a trash grabber wherever she goes. “Passersby sometimes liken me to David Sedaris,” she jokes. “But it’s a way to contribute a little to the neighborhood.” (Quick note: How adorable is her skirt?)
We then headed to our friends’ apartment to catch England playing in the World Cup — what a match, gahhh!!! (This Onion headline really cracked me up.)
In the end, and finally, Freddie returned from a family cruise that lasted a week.
We laughed about how each call from the ship sounded like this: “I’ll be back, I promise!” Also, did you know that actress Sonya Walger, who portrayed Penny, is also the author of the amazing novel Lion and likewise a Cup of Jo reader???? Isn’t that incredible?!!
Now, I’d love to know: What did you get up to this weekend? How have you been, overall? As always, I’m eager to hear. xoxo
P.S. More weekend stories, and what has tickled your funny bone lately?
