Summary of Weekend Events

How was your weekend? A while back, a wonderful CoJ reader named Molly suggested that it would be nice if everyone could occasionally share weekend recaps. Here’s mine, and feel free to add yours in the comments, if you’d like…

This weekend was more hectic than usual! Our cherished former babysitter Carolyn visited from Kansas City. She stayed with friends but dropped by our place for a hug. How adorable is her baby Bernie??

That was spot on, haha.

That night, Freddie and I watched A Separation, a 2011 Iranian movie about a challenging period in a marriage. Have you seen it? The acting was incredible, and though four people were in disagreement, you understood everyone’s viewpoint, which is what made it so moving and heartbreaking.

On Saturday, Anton and his friend set themselves a funny personal challenge: run five miles, bike five miles, win a Fortnite game, prepare a steak, bake a cake. And they managed everything!

Inspired by Jannelle, I also experimented with a scarf. Not sure I rocked it, but it was entertaining to try it out. (Cool travel ones here, too.)

The following morning, Anton and I set out on a small adventure to Central Park. We ended up walking around and renting a rowboat. Anton took a picture of himself and said, “This is how dads take pictures — just your frowning face in one corner of the shot.” It made me laugh a lot.

On Sunday evening, my best friend Gemma from London visited with her older two boys.

I prepared her room, and we ended up lying together and catching up.

Then we ordered pizzas, and I made a salad with lettuce, cucumbers, and feta. Freddie’s taught me how to browse the fridge for ingredients and not be afraid to just mix things. That probably seems really natural to most people but wasn’t for me!

Lastly, how charming is Gemma’s ankle bracelet? “It was like three euro from a beachside stall this summer,” she mentioned, “But this one is similar.” xoxo

What were you up to this weekend? Any highs or lows? Here for it all. xoxoxo

P.S. More weekend recaps, and the best reader comments of all time.
