Chanel has transformed their legendary gloss into an updated formula known as the Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss ($45 each). As a longtime admirer of Chanel, I was incredibly excited to be invited to a preview of these at the Chanel Beauty Boutique in Brickell Miami.
Longtime readers of beautylookbook may recall that Chanel inspired my very first blog entry back in 2009 with the Celestial Lights Glossimers (RIP). Chanel Beauty will eternally have a unique space in my heart. Thank you so much to those who have remained! My 20-something self would have never imagined this would evolve into my career.

The new Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss exceeds my expectations! I didn’t believe they could improve upon the previous formula, but somehow they have. It’s bittersweet to see so many stunning shades discontinued, and I still hold out hope that some of the original colors from years past (like Seashell, Unity, Blizzard, etc.) will make a comeback. The new formula is reminiscent of the last one but definitely an enhancement. It feels smoother with a somewhat lighter texture. It’s quite hydrating without sliding off the lips. Glossy with a brilliant shine. Personally, I find the pigmentation to be a bit more opaque with most of the shades I tested.
At the event, the Chanel team presented us with three shades in a pouch, but due to my lack of self-discipline, I ended up purchasing several to take home. I believe every single color is quite wearable. There are still a few more on my wishlist, but for now, here’s what I got.

Cristal is a shimmering semi-sheer iridescent pink, without any gritty texture from the sparkle.

Charms is the ideal baby pink, it’s medium-sheer but shows up nicely.

Bijou is the shade that the ROUGE COCO HYDRA GLOSS Voice Analyzer indicated was my match based on my voice; I truly adore this one!

Fabuleuse is the most sheer option, it’s a soft yellow, but resembles clear gloss.

I didn’t have the opportunity to lip swatch them all, but I hope this gives you a helpful idea of how the colors appear!
I am completely obsessed. I can hardly wait for additional colors to launch in future collections. There are also new Le Vernis nail shades and the Summer Nights Collection available. I’m unsure when I’ll be able to swatch or review, but I think the nail colors are truly stunning.
