From India, with affection. Not just a title for a new film, but the unveiling of one of India’s leading specialty coffee shop brands in Dubai, which debuted towards the close of 2025, contributing to the already vibrant specialty coffee landscape in Dubai. I had previously heard about Subko, as I first encountered their founder, Rahul Reddy, at the 2023 World of Coffee event in Dubai. During our initial meeting, he generously provided me with some special arabica coffee beans to take home, and I also sampled their chocolate.
I became intrigued by their brand, which sources the finest specialty coffee beans and cacao from India and nearby regions, cultivating them to create something extraordinary for the Indian coffee market.
Fast forward to 2025, and following a guest appearance at a coffee shop in London, I was thrilled to learn they’d be launching a coffee shop in Dubai before the end of 2025, the first Indian specialty coffee shop in Dubai, to my knowledge.
Situated in the trendy and now well-known Alserkal Avenue, I didn’t quite know what to anticipate… another coffee shop, a roastery or…
Much more.
A coffee shop, a coffee roastery, a chocolate-making factory, a kitchen, a bakery.
The Space
Upon entering, there’s a dedicated coffee brewing bar featuring a three-group La Marzocco espresso machine, serving takeaway coffee, pastries, their canned coffee, and bread for easy pickup and go.
During my initial visit, I thought this was the extent of it, but I was mistaken. Stay tuned.
As you stroll through the expansive space, you’re welcomed to browse their merchandise ranging from t-shirts to coffee, tea, and more. To the left, there’s a small office-like cubical area for meetings, followed by a compact Giesen coffee roasting machine, and then you proceed to the back of the location, beneath the stairs, where you can observe them crafting chocolate and sample it as well.
If you turn to your right, you’ll catch them baking bread and pastries too… quite tempting.
Upstairs is designed as a sit-down café, featuring its own brew bar and another La Marzocco Strada.
The seating area presents a whimsical layout, with artwork and tables tucked away in corners, so if you’re unable to find seating, venture deeper inside.
The Menu
So, what do they offer?
With an extensive menu that includes not only coffee beverages but also sandwiches, breakfast dishes, pastries, and desserts, you will be spoiled for choice, as the menu literally reads like a book.
I visited not just once but three times in their inaugural month, bringing friends and family along.
Their Coffee
In summary;
Their coffee is “meticulously sourced from the Subcontinent. Artfully crafted by skilled Arabica Q Graders, each bean is handpicked from regional plantations, ensuring an unparalleled journey of quality and flavor.”
They maintain direct trade relationships at origin with coffee estates and smallholder farmers who harvest and (often innovatively) process coffees that they strive to curate into only SCA 85+ point scoring coffees” (source: https://www.subko.coffee/pages/coffee )
On my first visit, I enjoyed a cortado and a Basque cheesecake, which I persuaded my wife to try on my second visit.
However, regarding coffee, I must admit I preferred their batch brew, featuring Project Pearl – but ensure you request it hot.
Their Food
You are truly spoiled for options and might find yourself confused about what to choose. They offer their rendition of shakshuka, mouthwatering pastries, a multi-layered croissant, which I sampled, non-coffee non-alcoholic coffee cocktails, and exciting sandwiches.
I enjoyed the Harrira Moroccan-inspired chicken sandwich on their delightful sourdough, a butter chicken-style sourdough sandwich, which may sound filling but was fantastic, with my kids requesting it twice in one sitting.
During my third visit, my friends and I indulged in their tasty sourdough.
So, what else is in store?
You will have to explore for yourself, BUT honestly, I believe you’ll be captivated by what they are creating as, during my last visit, their owner mentioned they still hadn’t completed their plans.
Highly recommended.
