Constantly seeking new coffee adventures during my visits to London, I stumbled upon two new spots and want to share with you one of my favorites.
2 Love Coffeehouse, 89 St John’s Rd, London SW11 1QY
Situated at the crossroads of St Johns Road and Battersea Rise, just a 5-6 minute walk from the bustling Clapham Junction railway station, 2 Love Tea and Coffee primarily showcases its coffee selections. I have been here several times; whenever I can sneak out before the day’s agenda is finalized, I grab a delightful flat white. Upon entry, an enticing display of cakes awaits on the left, which even those averse to sweets can’t overlook. I admit to having turned them down on a few occasions, but I’ve given in to their red velvet and carrot cake on others.
I often stop by for a great flat white and frequently purchase coffee to take back to Dubai as well.
They craft their own espresso blends while also offering and selling Monmouth coffees and selections from other local roasteries.
The Coffee Guild, 106 Walton Street, Oxford OX2 6AJ
During our son’s master’s graduation celebration and after a long day without specialty coffee, I was delighted to find this coffee shop on our route to the celebratory dinner just across the street. While everyone headed to the restaurant, I had to pause to grab something after spotting the La Marzocco Linea espresso machine – I sound overly enthusiastic… Nevertheless, it was worth it; I treated myself to a double espresso to energize me for the evening.
On our return from dinner, my brother couldn’t resist ordering a latte, and I picked up a bag of their espresso blend.
Two aspects truly impressed me at this coffee spot.
First, when was the last time you encountered a coffee shop in England open past 6pm? I can only recall one, Watch House in Bloomsbury, London. Curious, I inquired with the owner, and he mentioned they remain open until 11pm… yes, that’s correct. I’m quite certain no other coffee shop in England operates this late.
Secondly, the owner and staff were so warm and welcoming that I felt like crowning them “the happiest coffee shop in England.” Their enthusiasm for serving coffee and informing me about their late hours was truly wonderful.
I highly recommend this place.

I must admit, when a London friend suggested meeting here for coffee and a chat, I was a bit hesitant – perhaps due to the name. I almost suggested another location, but recognizing our limited time, I opted to check them out instead.
Yes, I spotted images of latte art, but I wanted to delve deeper. So, I arrived a bit earlier than my meeting to scope out the place. In contrast to most coffee shops in London, apart from the elegant and refined Watch House, most have a cozy neighborhood feel; however, this one came off as quite corporate, being situated at the base of a relatively new office building adjacent to the recently renovated Paddington railway station. After observing the barista and examining their coffee menu, I ordered a cortado.
It was delightful, and perhaps I shouldn’t judge a coffee shop by the quality of its flooring… Ha!.
