Forever seeking new coffee adventures during my visits to London, I stumbled upon two new spots and would like to share one of my favorites.
2 Love Coffeehouse, 89 St John’s Rd, London SW11 1QY
Situated at the junction of St Johns Road and Battersea Rise, about a 5-6 minute walk from the bustling Clapham Junction railway station, lies 2 Love Tea and Coffee – although their coffee selections truly take center stage on the menu. I’ve actually visited this place multiple times; whenever I manage to slip out of the house before the day’s agenda is settled, I’m able to grab a delightful flat white. Upon entering, you are welcomed by a tempting array of cakes on the left that even those who dislike desserts will find hard to resist. I must admit, I’ve overlooked them on some occasions but have given in to their red velvet and carrot cake during others.
I typically drop by for a solid flat white and often take coffee back to Dubai as well.
They create their own espresso-based coffee blends yet also offer and sell Monmouth coffees and other roasters from London.
The Coffee Guild, 106 Walton Street, Oxford OX2 6AJ
While celebrating our son’s master’s graduation and after a lengthy day void of specialty coffee, I was delighted to find this coffee spot on our route to the celebratory dinner across the street. As the rest of the group headed to the restaurant, I felt compelled to stop for a moment, having spotted the La Marzocco Linea espresso machine – I sound a bit addicted… Regardless, it was worth my time; I enjoyed a double espresso to power me through the remainder of the evening.
On our return trip after dinner, my brother couldn’t resist and ordered a latte, while I grabbed a bag of their espresso blend.
Two notable aspects caught my attention at this coffee shop.
Firstly, when was the last time you found a coffee shop in England open after 6pm? The only one I can recall is Watch House in Bloomsbury, London. Curious, I asked the owner, and he replied that they remain open until 11pm… yes, you read that correctly. I’m fairly certain no other coffee shop in England operates this late.
Secondly, the friendliness of the owner and staff was so heartwarming that I genuinely considered awarding them the title of “the happiest coffee shop in England.” Their enthusiasm for serving coffee and sharing that they’re open until 11pm was truly remarkable.
I highly recommend it.
Treelogy Coffee, 50 Eastbourne Terrace, Paddington, London W2 6LG
I must admit that when a friend in London suggested we meet here for coffee and a chat, I had reservations – likely due to the name. I was close to suggesting another place but, knowing our time was limited, I decided to look it up instead.
While I noticed their latte art in pictures, I wanted further details. So I arrived a bit earlier than my appointment to scope it out. Unlike many London coffee shops, aside from the elegant Watch House, which tend to have a neighborly vibe, this one appeared rather corporate as it was situated at the base of a relatively new office building, adjacent to the recently renovated Paddington railway station. After observing the barista and their coffee selections, I opted for a cortado.
It was fantastic, and perhaps I shouldn’t judge a coffee shop based on its flooring… Ha!
