Throughout 2025, I’ve been fortunate to encounter numerous coffee experiences, both familiar and fresh, and I often find myself hoping—perhaps even praying—that one of my favorite spots will emerge in my city. My wishes came true when I discovered in Coffee News that Watchhouse, a leading specialty coffee chain from London, would be opening in Dubai. The best part? It wasn’t one of those announcements hinting at a two-year wait; it was set to happen in just weeks, which indeed transpired in November 2025. Yay!
Found in a trendy pop-up area named Marsa Boulevard, which operates from 4pm-12am, situated next to Dubai Festival City Mall, Watchhouse stands among various local coffee and cake establishments, with just a handful of international brands.
I’m pleased to share that I visited twice within just four days.
During my initial visit, a long queue was no surprise, as many Emiratis in line are likely well-acquainted with this brand from central London.
I waited with my daughter and, since it was evening, I ordered a batch brew. Seating was limited due to the crowd, but we managed to grab two spots in front of their brew bar, surrounded by numerous V60 brewers.
Later, a barista informed me that they pre-measure and freeze their filter coffees, only to be brewed upon order placement. While waiting for my coffee, I spotted an AeroPress champion trophy and inquired, “Who won this?” having recently judged the UAE AeroPress championship and being introduced to the guy who secured third place.
He graciously offered us any coffee on the house, and my daughter chose matcha… (I was contemplating coffee… but trends and GenZ… sigh). I decided on a flat white to sample their milk-based options.
I don’t know what they added to it, but it easily became one of my favorite flat whites of the year… why? I asked the manager, who attributed it to the milk they use, and that seemed to be the key, as their espresso blend, 1829 Espresso, is identical to what’s served in London.
The batch brew was delightful too, featuring notes of dark fruit, although I realized he had given me Ethiopian instead of the El Salvador (if I remember correctly) I had ordered.
A few days later, while meeting a friend for lunch at the same mall, I noticed it was 3:30pm…. just 30 minutes until Watchhouse opened. I wandered around and arrived precisely at 4pm…I was the first customer. I explored, took a few pictures. I was tempted to indulge in a slice of cake… who wouldn’t?
Nevertheless, one of the staff recommended a chocolate tart (last pic) to pair with my flat white, so I caved in. My flat white was skillfully poured by one of their lead baristas from Cameroon. (oops, I forgot this name).
I also met the head barista from Zimbabwe, who shared insights about their philosophy, and I mentioned my long-standing familiarity with the brand as my go-to in London.
Another delightful experience.
