A Much-Needed Comeback to Paris
Last month, I had the chance to return to Paris. Reflecting on the experience, I realized it had been 28 years since my last visit. At that time, I wasn’t a dedicated coffee lover, making this return especially exciting after receiving an invitation to speak at a conference focused on nuclear energy investments, which is part of my professional life.
As soon as I learned my accommodation details, I began searching for specialty coffee options in the vicinity, but most renowned establishments were quite far from where I stayed – literally on the opposite side of Paris, taking 45-60 minutes to reach. Nonetheless, I found one exceptional spot within a 10-minute walk: Inform Café.
Three Visits in Three Days
During my three-day stay in Paris, I made it to Inform Café three times, each morning for my usual coffee fix before the conference commenced. On my last day, I hadn’t intended to return as I had discovered another coffee shop approximately 13 minutes away. However, I must admit, despite the appealing ambiance at this other place (which I won’t name), I was underwhelmed by the barista’s coffee-making skills, leading me back to Inform Café for my caffeine boost just before my taxi arrived for my flight, phew!
The café is situated at 25 Rue des Acacias, just a short distance from the Arc de Triomphe. Indeed, you can spot it by stepping outside the café, turning left, and looking right, here.
Can you spot it?
From the street view, it has a pleasantly modest appearance. Paris had an unusually warm September, and many patrons were enjoying the outdoors.
I was tempted to join them outside, but since I was dressed in a suit, I opted to sit indoors, where I could observe the barista in action and soak up the ambiance.
First Impressions
Upon entry, I saw a La Marzocco KB90 espresso machine to the left, alongside a counter filled with croissants and various Anglo-Saxon-inspired delights like brownies, carrot cake, cheesecake, etc.
The café also provides a diverse food menu, featuring complete breakfasts, brunch-style share plates, “fat stack” pancakes, sandwiches, and salads. Many guests seated outside seemed to be tourists, as I could hear English conversations, with several clearly having come for both breakfast and coffee.
The Coffee
During my initial visit, I ordered a flat white, skillfully crafted by Jean, the barista. They served a Guatemalan blend, which was delightful and provided the perfect boost I needed for the day ahead.
On the subsequent days, I opted for a cortado again, as I was still craving a milk-based coffee. The staff remained consistently pleasant and accommodating, and they all communicated in English, so there’s no worry if you’re unsure how to order in French.
“Je voudrais un café s’il vous plait”
What else?
I didn’t notice pour overs on their menu, but there were many alternative drink choices available for non-coffee drinkers.
After returning home, I conducted a bit more research and found that Inform Café is part of a larger collection of venues, encompassing a cake shop and a café inside a museum, where they offer an extensive menu including pie overs too – read more here.
Final Thoughts
If you find yourself in the 17th arrondissement of Paris, especially close to the Arc de Triomphe, I strongly urge you to visit Inform Café for your specialty coffee needs and a meal as well.
The coffee is expertly made, the staff is friendly, and the food menu makes it a convenient stop at any time throughout the day.
Ciao, or perhaps I should say, au revoir!
