From India with Affection. This isn’t merely the title of a forthcoming film, but rather the debut of one of India’s leading specialty coffee shop brands in Dubai, which opened in late 2025, enhancing the already vibrant specialty coffee landscape in Dubai. I was familiar with Subko prior to this, as I initially encountered their founder, Rahul Reddy, at the 2023 World of Coffee event in Dubai. During our first interaction, he generously provided me with some exclusive arabica coffee beans to take home, along with an opportunity to sample their chocolate.
Their brand piqued my interest, as they carefully select the finest specialty coffee beans and cacao from India and nearby countries, working to produce something exceptional for the Indian coffee market.
Fast forward to 2025, after a guest appearance at a coffee establishment in London, I was thrilled to discover they would be launching a coffee shop in Dubai before the year’s end, marking it as the first Indian specialty coffee shop to open in the city, to my knowledge.
Situated in the trendy and increasingly popular Alserkal Avenue, I wasn’t quite sure what to anticipate… another café, a roastery or…
Much more.
A coffee shop, a coffee roasting facility, a chocolate production workshop, a kitchen, a bakery.
The Space
Upon entering, you’ll find a dedicated coffee brewing bar equipped with a three-group La Marzocco espresso machine, providing takeaway coffee, pastries, canned coffee, and bread for convenient pick-up.
During my initial visit, I assumed this was the extent of it, but I was mistaken. Just wait.
Strolling through the expansive space, you’re invited to explore their merchandise, which includes everything from t-shirts to various coffees and teas. To the left, there’s a small office-like cubicle area for meetings, followed by a compact Giesen coffee roasting machine, before you venture to the back of the space, beneath the stairs, where you can observe chocolate being crafted and even sample some.
If you turn right, you’ll catch a glimpse of them baking bread and pastries… quite tempting.
Upstairs is designed as a sit-down café, featuring its own brew bar and another La Marzocco Strada.
The seating area features an intriguing layout, with artwork and tables tucked away in corners, so if seating is elusive, be sure to explore further inside.
The Menu
So, what delights await?
With a comprehensive menu that includes not just coffee beverages but also sandwiches, breakfast platters, pastries, and desserts, you’ll be faced with a plethora of choices as the menu resembles a book.
I visited not just once but three times during their opening month, enjoying the experience with friends and family.
Their Coffee
To summarize;
Their coffee is “meticulously sourced from the Subcontinent. Masterfully crafted by skilled Arabica Q Graders, every bean is handpicked from local plantations, guaranteeing an unparalleled journey of quality and flavor.”
They engage in direct trade relationships at origin with coffee farms and smallholder growers, harvesting and (often experimentally) processing coffees to curate only those scoring SCA 85+ points” (source: https://www.subko.coffee/pages/coffee)
On my first visit, I enjoyed a cortado and a Basque cheesecake, which I encouraged my wife to taste on my second visit.
However, in terms of coffee, I must admit I favored their batch brew, using Project Pearl – but be sure to request it hot.
Their Food
You are truly spoiled for choices, and it might become overwhelming regarding what to select. They offer their take on shakshuka, delightful pastries, a multi-layered croissant that I sampled, and non-coffee, non-alcoholic coffee cocktails, along with tempting sandwiches.
I relished the Harrira Moroccan-inspired chicken sandwich on their delicious sourdough, a butter chicken style sourdough sandwich, which may sound heavy but was incredibly tasty, resulting in my kids requesting it twice in one meal.
On my third visit, my friends and I opted for their scrumptious sourdough.
So, what other offerings do they have?
You’ll need to discover that for yourself, BUT sincerely, I believe you’ll be intrigued by what they are creating, as when I spoke with their owner during my last trip, he mentioned their plans were still not fully realized.
Highly recommend.
