Imagining Your Dream Wedding: A Manual for Organizing Your Flawless Celebration

Imagining Your Dream Wedding: A Manual for Organizing Your Flawless Celebration

Addressing weddings, if you’re unmarried — or given a chance to wed the same person once more — how would you picture it? What dress would you don? What poem might you recite? For fun, here’s what I might select nowadays…

1. A basic dress. When I was married before, I picked a J.Crew wedding dress, enjoying the evening in something that felt familiar — just a simple, silky outfit. Along those lines, I adore this one with a bow and this one with a flower (also in linen!).

2. Golden shoes or sandals. Absolutely stunning! And a kitten heel so my feet remain comfortable.

3. Everyday jewelry. Fancy jewelry isn’t my style, so I’d opt for something stunning that I could wear daily, too, like sparkly hoops and a graceful bracelet. I also enjoy the notion of a tiny locket with photos of missed loved ones, like my grandmother.

4. A quaint NYC eatery. Most of our friends reside in New York City, and I’ve been here for an impressive 25 years, yet mainstream wedding spots can be shockingly pricey. Alternatively, imagine leasing a small bar for drinks and snacks? This one rests on a dock on the East River, boasting views of the Manhattan skyline. Just crossing fingers for pleasant weather.

5. A variety of galettes. Sure, I enjoy cake, yet I adore, adore flaky, buttery galettes. A Brooklyn baker named Sacha makes some of the finest I’ve consumed, delivering them to your doorstep (he’s acquiring skills from other bakeries to launch his own). It’d be thrilling to offer an array of flavors on exquisite cake stands, so guests can help themselves to a slice.

6. An abundance of toasts. This one may be contentious, but I abhor dancing and adore speeches. The emotional dad, the clever sister, my own brother who inexplicably gave his entire speech in an Australian accent. I could relish entertaining toasts endlessly, about anything, regardless of the occasion. Extra points for a best-friend toast-off, akin to the legendary scene in Bridesmaids.

Your thoughts? What would you alter if you married anew? A friend once mentioned, “I wouldn’t start with drinking excessively,” haha. Plus, how adorable are these photo matchboxes as favors?

P.S. 11 wedding do’s and don’ts, and would you consider a first look?
