This summer, we will be heading to visit relatives in England and France. I’m thrilled for cuddly babies and drizzly beaches! For a period of three weeks, the boys and I will be sticking to just one carry-on each, so we must wisely select clothes that we can mix and match and wear everywhere. Here are 10 reliable pieces I’m packing…
1. A blouse is perfect for evening drinks and dinners, and the best part about this one is that it’s crafted from cheesecloth, making it breathable, wrinkle-resistant, and casual enough to wear with damp hair straight from the pool. My friend Victoria donned one throughout last summer and looked effortlessly stunning. (This tee is also quite fashionable.)
2. I also pack a collection of everyday tees — white, black, and an entertaining stripe.
3. A denim dress with patch pockets is an ideal choice for everything from morning strolls to shell-collecting to playground visits. I’m also bringing this striped one, which serves as a charming swimsuit coverup.
4. This cotton gauze maxi skirt somehow looks polished right out of the suitcase, particularly when paired with a white tee. Bonus: Red always photographs beautifully.
5. A cotton sweater is essential for cool evenings.
6. And I’ve already worn these chino shorts quite a bit this summer. How adorable is the slightly flared leg and nautical drawstring?
7. OKAY GUYS. I am not exaggerating when I claim I’ve discovered the black pants of a lifetime. They feature an elastic waistband and a effortlessly chic silhouette, and the fabric is a crisp, lightweight cotton poplin. I can’t emphasize enough how great they look and feel, and I’m eager to wear them all summer for long flights, city adventures, dinners out, you name it.
8. I’ve worn these strappy sandals for years, and if you’re seeking something new, this brand looks significantly more expensive than it is.
9. My favorite swim brand Andie recently released a very cute collaboration with comedian Chloe Fineman. I’m interested in this sexy one-piece with tiny polka dots. (Which do you prefer?) Ideal for wearing while reading a thriller by the pool.
10. Lastly, my very old suitcase just gave out, so I replaced it with Wirecutter’s luggage choice: this $130 carry-on with 360-degree spinner wheels and a detachable laundry bag. It comes in 10 attractive colors; I opted for the lively emerald.
Whew! Altogether, for three weeks in Europe, I’m bringing: one jacket, one sweater, two shirts, four tees, two dresses, one skirt, two pairs of shorts, one pair of pants, sandals, sneakers, and pajamas. Plus, of course, my everyday makeup and skincare. That’s it!
What do you pack? I’d love to hear! Plus, I somehow always pack soooooo many pairs of underwear — are you the same?
