Three Coffee Shops You Absolutely Should Visit on a London Stopover

Constantly seeking fresh coffee adventures during my visits to London, I came across two new spots and would like to introduce you to one of my favorites.

2 Love Coffeehouse, 89 St John’s Rd, London SW11 1QY

Situated at the crossroads of St Johns Road and Battersea Rise, only about a 5-6 minute stroll from the bustling Clapham Junction train station, is 2 Love Tea and Coffee – where the coffee selection takes precedence. I’ve actually frequented this place several times; if I can slip out of the house before the day’s agenda is set, I’m able to enjoy a quality flat white. Upon entering, you’ll find a tempting display of cakes on your left that only those who dislike desserts could ignore. I confess, I’ve bypassed these sweet treats a few times but have given in to the allure of their red velvet and carrot cake on other occasions.

I typically pop in for a delightful flat white and often take some coffee back to Dubai as well.

The Coffee Guild, 106 Walton Street, Oxford OX2 6AJ

During our son’s master’s graduation celebration, after a lengthy day without specialty coffee, I was thrilled to stumble upon this coffee shop on our way to the celebratory dinner across the street. As everyone marched into the restaurant, I felt compelled to stop for a drink after noticing the La Marzocco Linea espresso machine – I may sound like a coffee addict… Regardless, it was worth the pause for a double espresso to energize me for the rest of the evening.

On the return walk after dinner, my brother couldn’t resist ordering a latte, and I picked up a bag of their espresso blend.

There were two things that stood out to me about this coffee shop.

Firstly, when was the last time you encountered a coffee shop in England still operating after 6pm? I can name just one, Watch House in Bloomsbury, London. Curious, I asked the owner, and he informed me they remain open until 11pm… yes, that’s correct. I’m fairly certain that no other coffee shop in England operates this late.

Secondly, the owner and his staff were so welcoming that I nearly wanted to give them the title of “the happiest coffee shop in England.” Their enthusiasm for serving coffee and sharing that they’re open until 11pm was truly remarkable.

Highly recommended.

Treelogy Coffee, 50 Eastbourne Terrace, Paddington, London W2 6LG

I admit that when a London friend suggested meeting here for coffee and a chat, I was somewhat hesitant – likely due to the name. I almost suggested a different location, but knowing we had limited time, I opted to check this place out instead.

Indeed, I saw images of latte art, but I wanted further insight. So, I arrived a bit early for my meeting to explore the venue. Unlike most coffee shops in London, apart from the elegant Watch House, many coffee spots exude a local charm, yet this one presented a more corporate feel as it was positioned at the base of a relatively new office building adjacent to the recently renovated Paddington train station. After observing the barista and evaluating their coffee menu, I settled on a cortado.

It was delightful, and I probably shouldn’t judge a coffee shop by its flooring…. Ha!.
