Love from India. Not just a title of a new cinematic venture, but the debut of one of India’s top specialty coffee shop brands in Dubai, which launched towards the close of 2025, enhancing the already thrilling specialty coffee landscape in the city. I had previously heard about Subko, having met their founder, Rahul Reddy, during the 2023 World of Coffee event in Dubai. At our initial encounter, he graciously provided me with some exceptional arabica coffee beans to take home, along with a taste of their chocolate.
I found their brand fascinating, as they source the best specialty coffee beans and cacao from India and its close neighbors, cultivating them to create something unique for the Indian coffee scene.
Fast forward to 2025; after a special appearance at a coffee establishment in London, I was thrilled to discover that they would be launching a coffee shop in Dubai before the end of 2025, reportedly the first Indian specialty coffee shop to do so.
Situated in the trendy and increasingly popular Alserkal Avenue, I was unsure of what to expect… another coffee outlet, a roastery, or…
Much more.
A coffee shop, a coffee roastery, a chocolate-making facility, a kitchen, a bakery.
The Space
Upon entering, there’s a dedicated coffee brewing bar featuring a three group La Marzocco espresso machine, perfect for takeaway coffee, pastries, their canned coffee, and bread for quick grab-and-go.
The first time I visited, I assumed that was all there was, but I was mistaken. Just wait.
As you walk through the expansive area, you’re invited to explore their merchandise, which includes t-shirts, coffee, tea, and more. On the left side, there’s a small office-like cubicle for meetings, followed by a compact Giesen coffee roasting machine, finally leading to the back of the space, beneath the stairs, where you can observe chocolate production and even sample some.
If you turn right, you’ll notice them also baking bread and pastries… quite tempting.
The upstairs area is intended to be a sit-down café, complete with its own brew bar and another La Marzocco Strada.
The seating arrangement has an intriguing layout, with art and tables nestled in corners, so if seating seems scarce, venture further inside.
The Menu
What is available?
With an extensive menu that includes not only coffee drinks but also sandwiches, breakfast plates, pastries, and desserts, you’ll find yourself with plentiful choices as the menu resembles a book.
I visited not once but three times during their opening month, bringing along family and friends.
Their Coffee
To summarize;
Their coffee is “meticulously sourced from the Subcontinent. Crafted with care by skilled Arabica Q Graders, each bean is handpicked from local estates, guaranteeing an experience of unrivaled quality and flavor.”
They collaborate through direct trade relationships at the source with coffee estates and smallholder farmers harvesting and (often experimenting with) processing coffees that they aspire to curate into only SCA 85+ point scoring coffees” (source: https://www.subko.coffee/pages/coffee )
On my first visit, I enjoyed a cortado and a Basque cheesecake, which I encouraged my wife to try on my second visit.
However, regarding coffee, I must admit I favored their batch brew, utilizing Project Pearl – just ensure you ask for it hot.
Their Food
You will genuinely be overwhelmed with options and may feel perplexed about what to order. They feature their rendition of shakshuka, delightful pastries, a layered croissant, which I tried, non-coffee non-alcoholic coffee cocktails, and enticing sandwiches.
I sampled the Harrira Moroccan-inspired chicken sandwich on their scrumptious sourdough, along with a butter chicken style sandwich, which might sound filling but was delightful, and my kids ordered it twice in one sitting.
During my third visit, my friends and I purchased their delectable sourdough.
What else is available?
You’ll have to explore that for yourself, BUT honestly, I believe you’ll be captivated by what they are creating, as when I met the owner on my last visit, he mentioned they still hadn’t completed their plans.
Highly recommended.
