Trip to SUBKO Specialty Coffee Roasters and Bakehouse in Dubai

Love from India. Not a title of a new film, but the introduction of one of India’s leading specialty coffee shop brands in Dubai, which opened at the close of 2025, enhancing the already vibrant specialty coffee landscape in Dubai. I had heard of Subko previously, as I first met their founder, Rahul Reddy, at the 2023 installment of the World of Coffee in Dubai. During our initial encounter, he generously offered me some special arabica coffee beans to bring home, along with a taste of their chocolate.

Chocolate chocolate

I was captivated by their brand, which sources the finest specialty coffee beans and cacao from India and its nearby neighbors, nurturing them to create something exceptional for the Indian coffee market.

Jump to 2025, and following a guest appearance at a coffee shop in London, I was thrilled to discover they would be launching a coffee shop in Dubai before the year ended, the first Indian specialty coffee shop to debut in Dubai, to my knowledge.

Nestled in the trendy and now bustling Alserkal Avenue, I was unsure what to anticipate… another coffee shop, a roastery or…

So much more.

A coffee shop, a coffee roastery, a chocolate factory, a kitchen, a bakery.

The Space

Upon entering, they feature a dedicated coffee brewing counter equipped with a three-group La Marzocco espresso machine, serving takeaway coffee, pastries, their canned coffee, and bread for quick grab-and-go.

During my first visit, I assumed that was all, but I was mistaken. Just wait.

As you stroll through the expansive space, you’re invited to explore their merchandise, which includes t-shirts, coffee, tea, and more. On the left side, there’s a small office-like cubicle where you can hold a meeting, followed by a compact Giesen coffee roasting machine, leading you to the back of the space, beneath the stairs, where you can observe them crafting chocolate and taste it too.

How to taste coffee

If you head to your right, you will find them baking bread and pastries as well… tempting.

The upper level is designed as a sit-down café, equipped with its own brew bar and another La Marzocco Strada.

The seating area features an intriguing layout, with artwork and tables tucked away in corners, so if you struggle to find a seat, explore further inside.

The Menu

So, what delights await?

With a comprehensive menu that spans not only coffee beverages, but also sandwiches, breakfast dishes, pastries, and desserts, you will be overwhelmed by choices as the menu essentially reads like a novel.

I visited not once, but three times in their inaugural month, bringing friends and family along.

Their Coffee

In summary;

Their coffee is “carefully sourced from the Subcontinent. Crafted with care by skilled Arabica Q Graders, with each bean handpicked from local plantations, guaranteeing a journey of unmatched quality and flavor.”

They engage in direct trade relationships at origin with coffee estates and smallholder farmers harvesting and (often experimentally) processing coffees that they strive to curate into only SCA 85+ point scoring coffees” (source: https://www.subko.coffee/pages/coffee )

Cortado at Subko, Dubai

On my first visit, I enjoyed a cortado and a Basque cheesecake, which I encouraged my wife to try on my second visit.

However, regarding coffee, I must admit I favored their batch brew, using Project Pearl – just ensure you request it hot.

Their Food

You will truly be spoiled for options, and may find yourself puzzled over what to choose. They have their interpretation of shakshuka, delightful pastries, a multi-layered croissant, which I tried, non-coffee non-alcoholic coffee cocktails, and exciting sandwiches.

A sweet treat

I sampled the Harrira Moroccan inspired chicken sandwich in their delicious sourdough, along with a butter chicken style sourdough sandwich, which might seem filling but was delicious, and my kids ordered it twice in one sitting.

On my third visit, my friends and I indulged in their scrumptious sourdough.

So, what other surprises await?

You will have to discover that for yourself, BUT honestly, I think you’ll be captivated by what they are creating, as when I met their owner on my last visit, he mentioned they still hadn’t completed their plans.

Highly recommended.
