From London to Dubai.
We’ve encountered a few similar places here in Dubai, whether it’s a high-end restaurant, a bakery, or a shop, BUT when it concerns specialty coffee, this is exceedingly uncommon. In fact, one of my favorite specialty coffee shops from London is set to open in Dubai this week or next – more details on that when I get to visit it, God willing.
So, let’s talk about Half Cup, Dubai.
I had never heard of this venue until our daughter recommended it for brunch to celebrate my wife’s birthday, so I looked them up and examined their coffee, and off we went.
It’s located in a new residential area in Business Bay, surrounded by impressive apartment buildings known as Peninsula 1, 2, 3, etc. As you drive up, you might feel like you’re in any part of the globe, with a view of the canal not far away. Half Cup itself boasts a modern design, almost resembling a glass box filled with abundant sunlight and features some outdoor seating for when it cools down – yes, it does cool off in Dubai, from early November until about late March.
Even though the indoor seating is limited, we were fortunate to find a spot as we entered. Our excellent server, Chris, attended to us with great care and attentiveness. I believe our first misstep was not heeding his advice regarding the portion sizes. Whoa!
I can’t tell if the size of our Turkish Eggs with beef brisket is clear, but the BBQ Beef Brisket Brioche sandwich was sufficient for three people.
Whoa!!!!
If you decide to dine there and opt for eggs royale, be cautious as it’s enough for two as well, which I noticed the table next to us had ordered.
Now, how’s the coffee?
Positioned on a striking steel brewing bar is their dual group La Marzocco Linea espresso machine paired with two Victoria Arduino grinders. They offer a selection of coffees for filter and espresso, locally roasted by one of my top Dubai-based roasters, so I felt confident in their offerings. I chose a flat white, made with Brazilian beans.
Delicious, with notes of nuts and milk chocolate. Luckily, I ordered this before my meal, as I often do when choosing eggs cooked in tomato sauce, like the Turkish eggs. Otherwise, finishing my coffee could have proved difficult.
Highly recommend, and did I mention they also have a dinner menu?
I am already looking forward to my next visit, as when you discover good food and coffee, you can bet I’ll be planning my return soon.

For my meal, I opted for their renowned avocado toast, paired with a flat white. The avocado toast was exceptional, showcasing perfectly ripe avocado, a hint of lime, and a dash of chili flakes atop freshly baked sourdough bread. It was both tasty and fulfilling. The flat white was skillfully prepared, boasting a rich, smooth flavor that complemented the meal wonderfully.
The team at Half Cup Café deserves special recognition for their outstanding service. They were attentive, friendly, and well-versed in the menu, making recommendations that enhanced my dining experience. Their enthusiasm for delivering a memorable experience was evident in every interaction.
In addition to its scrumptious food and drinks, Half Cup Café also includes a selection of freshly baked pastries and desserts. I couldn’t resist sampling their homemade carrot cake, which was moist, perfectly flavored, and topped with a creamy frosting that was simply heavenly.
