Constantly seeking fresh coffee adventures during my visits to London, I stumbled upon two new spots and would like to share one of my favorites.
2 Love Coffeehouse, 89 St John’s Rd, London SW11 1QY
Nestled at the crossroads of St Johns Road and Battersea Rise, just a 5-6 minute stroll from the bustling Clapham Junction station is 2 Love Tea and Coffee – though their coffee selection truly takes the spotlight. I’ve frequented this location multiple times; if I slip out of the house before the day’s agenda is set, I can enjoy a fantastic flat white. Upon entering, an enticing display of cakes greets you on your left that only those with a strong distaste for desserts could overlook. I admit, I’ve bypassed these delights a few times but have given in to their red velvet and carrot cakes on other occasions.
I often stop in for a delicious flat white and occasionally grab coffee to take back to Dubai as well.
They feature their own espresso blends while also selling Monmouth coffee and selections from other London roasters.
The Coffee Guild, 106 Walton Street, Oxford OX2 6AJ
During our son’s master’s graduation and after a long day without a decent cup, I was delighted to spot this coffee shop on our way to the dinner celebration across the street. As everyone entered the restaurant, I felt compelled to pause and grab something upon noticing the La Marzocco Linea espresso machine – I might be sounding like a coffee junkie… Regardless, it was well worth it for a double espresso to see me through the rest of the evening.
On our return after dinner, my brother couldn’t resist ordering a latte, and I picked up a bag of their espresso blend.
Two aspects truly impressed me at this coffee shop.
Firstly, when was the last time you encountered a coffee shop in England that stayed open beyond 6pm? The only one that comes to mind is Watch House in Bloomsbury, London. Curiously, I asked the owner, and he shared that they remain open until 11pm… indeed, you read that correctly. I’m quite certain that no other coffee shop in England operates this late.
Secondly, the owner and staff were so welcoming that I felt almost inclined to give them the title of “the happiest coffee shop in England.” Their enthusiasm in serving coffee and sharing their late hours brought such joy.
Highly recommended.
Treelogy Coffee, 50 Eastbourne Terrace, Paddington, London W2 6LG
I must admit, when a friend from London proposed we meet here for coffee and a chat, I was a bit hesitant – likely due to its name. I was nearly going to suggest another venue, but knowing our time was limited, I opted to look them up instead.
I did come across images of latte art, but I sought further information. Thus, I arrived a bit earlier than my appointment to check the place out. Unlike many coffee shops in London, except for the stylish Watch House, which tend to embody a more neighborly feel, this one appeared quite corporate, positioned at the base of a relatively new office building adjacent to the recently renovated Paddington station. After observing the barista and reviewing their coffee menu, I opted for a cortado.
It was delightful, and perhaps I shouldn’t judge a coffee shop by its aesthetic choices…. Ha!.
