Ameerah Omar first made her appearance on Cup of Jo in our Brooklyn street style feature the previous year, and her all-denim ensemble was so impressive that we had to see more! As a self-development and meditation coach, Ameerah is also passionate about long-distance running. Here, she reveals five beloved outfits…
Shirt: Banana Republic, similar. Sweatshirt: Adidas. Jeans: Zara. Sneakers: Adidas, similar. Sunglasses: Oakley. Earrings: Bloomingdales. Watch: Breda.
“My dog’s name is Huntly, which is my mother’s maiden name. He’s the most joyful dog, bringing such happiness and liveliness to my life. The entire neighborhood knows him — the first question people ask is, ‘Where’s Huntly?!’ I started taking him on runs this past winter, once he reached the right age, and now he can manage up to 5K!”
Crop top: Adidas. Shorts: Adidas, similar. Sneakers: Adidas. Bandana: Levi’s. Watch: Garmin.
“When I lace up and go running, that’s when I feel the freest, as I can move through time and space without constraints from anything or anyone else. That’s not always true in other parts of life. I never run with music or headphones, and if I wear a watch, it’s mainly for style purposes — I don’t track my pace or those metrics. I simply let my body signal if I need to slow down or speed up.”
“All my necklaces were gifts, and I never take them off. The Hamsa was gifted by my older sister as a symbol of protection. The Taurus pendant reflects who I am — a loyal, stubborn Taurus! The A represents my name, and the circle symbolizes the love that exists between all humans.”
Top: ROSCHiC. Pants: Zara, similar. Sandals: Teva. Purse strap: Clare V. Sunglasses: Feisedy.
“I love denim — mixing and matching it, layering it, wearing it as a top, or going for the complete Canadian tuxedo. In New York City, your day can take many different turns. One moment you might be having coffee with a friend. So, I like the versatility of denim; it can be worn very casually or dressed up for a chic look.”
“I was raised in an environment where saying ‘I love you’ was common, but I understand many people didn’t experience that. I try to say ‘I love you’ as often as possible, hoping to normalize those words. I realize they can be intimidating to some, and my tattoos serve as a gentle reminder that ‘I love you’ can be simple. It doesn’t have to be weighty or intense. It means I’m here for you, and that’s unconditional.”
Top: H&M, similar. Skirt: Adidas, similar.
“I stand 6’1, and I’ve been this tall since I was 13. As a teenager, I wasn’t thrilled about towering over everyone, but that feeling dissipated quickly. Now, I embrace it, saying, ‘This is who I am.’ I see my height as a form of power, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’m not going to avoid heels or try to make myself smaller. I would choose myself exactly as I am, every single time.”
“I receive many compliments and questions about my hair! My hair is natural and never dyed. I typically wear it back as that suits my lifestyle as a runner. I eagerly await the day I wake up with all-white hair.”
Tank: Zara, similar. Jeans: Zara.
“I’m a co-captain of Girls Run NYC, an all-women running collective. Running is the foundation, but it’s more than just that. Many women in the group have formed lifelong friendships and even started businesses together. We meet at the track weekly, and it’s open to everyone. Workouts are designed so you can go at your own pace — challenge by choice, no woman left behind.”
“I’ve resided in New York for 24 years, but I grew up in California and I still consider myself a California girl at heart. It seems I carry that essence with me because when I mention I’m from California, people often say, ‘Oh yeah, I sensed that.’ ”
Thanks so much, Ameerah. (And to you too, Huntly — such a good boy!)
